Hard Drive By - action for information freedom
Join a national day of action for freedom of information.
In response to the seizue of their hard drives from Rackspace by agents from an as-yet-unconfirmed secret police agency, Indymedia server Ahimsa have called for supporting groups to hand over old hardware to government agencies in their own country.
The action - known as a 'Hard Drive By' - demands full disclosure of information about the Rackspace raid, what agency carried them out and at whose behest. It is also a protest against state interference with our human rights to freedom of information and freedom from unreasonable search and seizure as well as being an opportunity to raise public awareness of shady enforcement agencies and their increased powers under the various 'anti-terrorism' laws enacted around the world in response to Sept 11.
If others are interested I'd like to call for a national day of action in the next week or so. We could target offices of the SIS, GCSB, Helen Clark who they answer to and Labour in general for passing the 'anti-terrorist bill' and participating in Dubya's smokescreen crusade against islamic fundamentalists - designed to mask the use of the US state and military to further elite business interests.
It would be good to brainstorm a list of ways in which our freedom of information and expression have been interfered with in Aotearoa to form the basis of a leaflet that could be handed out at each demo.
