Auckland Anti-War Activists Shut down ANZ Bank

The central Auckland ANZ Bank was closed down today when 200 activists marched to same bank that they occupied last March. 20 officers and several security guards stood still as protesters yelled "ANZ, Profits From Murder", "We all live in a terrorist regime" (To the tune of Yellow Submarine), chanting to the theme of starwars and the famed "S C U M, what does it spell? SCUM!" chant.

The ANZ bank is a part of an international consortium of banks led by the American Bank who are profiting from the restructuring of Iraq along the lines of neo-liberalism.

Radical Youth, Blackcat Anarchist Collective and Socialist Workers Activists kept things lively.

The reason the bank was shut, was because they were worried the same thing that happened last time would reoccur. It goes to show, that strategically, when you have the strength to do something, you can make them think it will happen again. It was fun, and should be repeated... over... and OVER... again.

photos from the days protest. I had fun, the cops got a bit spat on. good day.
Anti war march, Aucklands controbution to the global day of action against the occupation of Iraq. simple really. we started outside the U.S consulate and marched on the street to our friendly neighbourhood ANZ branch where many a officer stoped us going inside but basically shut it down for us. (thanks).
