Solidarity Picket in Wellington
15 people picketed the Chinese Embassy in Wellington at lunch time today for almost one hour in solidarity with the 14 activists who still face charges from the protests against the WTO ministerial in Hong Kong.
Protesters blocked off the entrance to the embassy with a banner ("Drop the charges - Smash the WTO!"). Two cops showed up and threatened to arrest us for obstruction.
Today is an International Day of Solidarity with the people who were arrested in Honk Kong. 1300 people were thrown into prison for protesting against neo-liberalism. Everyone has been released now but 14 people are still charged with 'unlawful assembly'. They are going back to court this Wednesday. 11 of the activists have gone into a hinger strike. The declaration of the 14 was read out at the embassy.
Solidarity protests will take all over the globe today. We support our sisters and brothers who fight, like us, neo-liberalism and capitalism.
Our struggle against the WTO is not over but to be won by the people of the world.
