"Hey Auckland, Listen Up! The Cleaners, Are standing up!"

in

In Auckland today about fifty cleaners and their supporters marked International Cleaners Day with a rally and a noisy march down Queen Street to the National Bank building where billion dollar property company Allco won the Golden Toilet brush award.

The crowd had a festive atmosphere as it marched down Queen Street after speeches from Rev. Mua Strickson-Pua and the Service and Food Workers Union officials and the cleaners too. Some youth had prepared some raps which they presented through the megaphone, the cleaners had drums and one supporter had a massive shell that sounded like a trumpet. The rally got a good reception from the passersby as they chanted, "Hey Auckland, Listen Up! The Cleaners Are Standing up!" and "What do we want? A Clean Start! When do we want it? Now!"

Re: "Hey Auckland, Listen Up! The Cleaners, Are standing up!"

If they didn't have us cleaners
of every different race
this old world would be an absolutely filthy place
when we clean ther streets and offices
they brighten up our pay
so why don't the dirty contracters just
brighten up our pay?
