LABOUR: 90 YEARS SCREWING 90% OF THE PEOPLE

While Labour partied up large in Parliament last Friday night a government department was finalising a damming report.
The New Zealand Living Standards 2004 report released on 11/7/06 showed 8 % of the population existing in a state of "severe hardship" That 8% in the severe hardship category is an increase from 5% in 2000, attributed to a drop in the real income of beneficiary families with children and an increase in average incomes that widened the gap.

The 2004 survey was the most comprehensive undertaken in New Zealand, with about 5000 families assessed on 40 indicators.
The report showed Maori and Pacific people had substantially lower living standards than the population as a whole – 40 per cent of Maori and 58 per cent of Pacific people experienced some degree of hardship compared with 19 per cent of Europeans.
It also showed that in 2000, 7% of Maori and 15% of Pacific people were in the severe hardship category and by 2004 that had increased to 17 % and 27%.

This recent growth of poverty under a Labour government is not some aberration. The self styled "worker friendly" Labour party has an ugly history of reactionary behaviour, stretching back to its earliest years.
* 1920: Labour ardently supported the White New Zealand policy and Immigration
Restriction Act, arguing against 'race mixing' with Chinese
* 1935: Labour helped save NZ capitalism, with an expansionary programme for
business while keeping wages low
* WW2: Labour used emergency powers to crush strikes, imprison pacifists in
detention camps and make the Jehovah's Witnesses illegal
* 1935-49: Labour increased the share of national income going to business as
opposed to workers
*1949: Labour deregistered the Carpenters' Union and began all-out assault on
unions, continued by the incoming National government
*1949: Labour introduced peacetime conscription
*1951: Labour helped National smash the waterside workers and their allies,
including going along with the use of draconian legislation to ban
workers' rallies and outlaw free speech
*1972: Labour sanctioned of injunctions to break union actions.
*1980’s Labour introduced GST and raised it, sold off most state assets and closed over 20 hospitals. Thousands were thrown out of work by Rogernomics policies while the super rich got 300% richer in two terms of Labour.
After 90 years of Labour sellouts its time to stop the rot. Its time to build a new political movement of by and for workers, to challenge Labour and National and the capitalist system of exploitation which they administer.

So Don,
Where's this all leading?

Re: Labour - 90 year screwing 90% of the people

IWD, the 90 years of Labour/National we've just had is leading to a few more fine careers for a few yuppies and a great big fucking nowhere for the people I give a shit about, namely low paid workers.

Bur surely you know that without my say so.

My kaupapa for trying to redress the balance is the programe of the Workers Party.

We have done some work and are still on the case, but don't claim to have all the answers in the bag.

Is there anyplace you would like to lead us?
