New Brighton Wananga/Occupation
OTAUTAHI/CHRISTCHURCH: An incredible weekend of protest at the New Brighton pier in Otautahi/Christchurch came to an end today, with organisers vowing that this was only the beginning to the opposition of the recently passed Seabed and Foreshore bill.
Local group Te Mangoroa began the wananga/occupation of the pier on the morning of Friday the 3rd of December. A group of about 30 Maori & Pakeha braved the cold and were welcomed onto the beach and the pier by a series of powhiri.
Tents were pitched, banners were strung and flags unleashed. Visitors were given information about the Foreshore and Seabed bill and welcomed onto the pier. Public response was generally positive and many took the opportunity to learn the truth behind the media lies.
[ Te Mangoroa End Occupation ]
A minority, however, were not cooperative and this stressed the need for further education.
A sound system was set up on the Saturday and saw some awesome and truly inspiring performances as others chilled out in the sun.
The activities came to a close today with a press conference underneath the pier and a final powhiri which was attended by more than 50 people.
Organisers acknowledged that with the farcical "democratic" channels of change exhausted, the only option left is direct action.
The protest action sought to raise awareness about the real issues behind the Foreshore and Seabed bill, to demand local Maori MP Mahara Okeroa to leave his seat, and to signal the start of protest across Aotearoa against the enforcement of this latest theft.

Re: New Brighton Wananga/Occupation
On to it everyone. Would have been there if I could, stuck in Australia for a bit longer. I am originally from Otautahi and I am always aware that I am privileged to live in this wondrous land. I am not there because of some kind of birthright. I do not belong to the original owners of the land but I share it with them in peace. I feel accepted in Aotearoa and I am forever thankful to Maori for sharing this land with so many even after our for fathers shat all over yours. It is a true honour not to be taken for granted. The New Zealand flag is a pile of shit and an insult to fly in my opinion, some kind of sick victory flag. It has nothing to do with the land and peoples of today. This has been the final straw for me when it comes to this Governments disrespect and greed with this country. How dare they rub it in any further? This land is Maori land, it will always be no matter what piece of white paper say, and unfortunately these pieces of paper tell us what we can do with it. I say do what you will and fuck those in the hive that continue to sting those already stung. Kia Kaha. NO MORE RAUPATU

Tīhei mauri tū, tū ki runga.

Na koutou te mānuka i whuia ki te papa
Ma mātau e hiki, otirā, ma tātau katoa.
Tēnā koutou me ngā mihi, kia ora rawa atu tātau katoa.
I know how differcuilt the struggle is for us, but I would like to encourage us all to keep walking, keep talking and keep on educating all nations that walk our shores of Aotearoa so that togeather with the knowledge shared and nutured we will become strong and our hoi will go swiftly and stongly through the waters. In doing this, I believe we will find our greatest conquest.
Ko au ko koe, ko koe ko au!
Kia kaha tätau i ou tätou hikoi i ou tätou akonga mo eneni kaupapa tuturu. Kia maia nga mea taonga mai nga tätou tupuna. Kia toa i ou tätou whakapono o ta matou taku tae moana.
Kei te mihi, kei te mihi, kei te mihi atu kia koutou kataoa.
Re: New Brighton Wananga/Occupation
Lets build reservations up in the central North Islands and stick all these complainers, wingers and bludgers in them.
Just think what it would do to the burglary and benficiary stats.

Eric.....I hope people like you can be banned from this site. Your racism is a sad and sick thing. Go learn the truth instead of your biggoted views taken from main stream media.
No wonder my maori whanau get upset.
Re: New Brighton Wananga/Occupation
Great stuff and thanks for the report - haven't seen anything in the mainstream media. Please keep us posted, this is exactly what we need. Be interested to know more about Te Mangoroa, plus the response if any of the Maori Party and the left, trade unions etc to this action.
Re: New Brighton Wananga/Occupation
whats erics I.P any more posts should be considered 'spam' and his Internet Provider should be notified. Racist Bastard.
Eric
I've hidden Eric's post as racist - he isn't banned, but he is classed as a 'spammer', which means the ed crew can hide his posts on sight if they breach the ed policy [as opposed to seeking the approval of other ed people before hiding something].
We don't and will never monitor IP addresses of site users. This is to protect the privacy of other users from fun things like police raids and court orders.
Re: New Brighton Wananga/Occupation
you are fit to fly, Jessie. It is that flag and what it stands for that gives the insane, and those who say that they are maor or is it maarrri or mrree, from this or that pig pen, and things such as yourself the freedom to express their opinion.
Re: New Brighton Wananga/Occupation
I would very much like to read the contribution from abused, despised and detained Eric. HIS COMMENT MUST HAVE BEEN VERY CLOSE TO THE TRUTH as it is upsetting some. This is a very racist site, very Liberal, which is what the Communists in the USA called themselves.
Re: New Brighton Wananga/Occupation
I have just read Eric! There is absolutely no racist opinion expressed. Those who protest do so too much, me thinks. Scared of a little warm sunlight, perhaps? What's up ,finn? You let Jessie in, and that is racist?
