New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
It was a Happpy New Years indeed for 22 battery hens liberated in Auckland in the early hours of New Years day! Auckland Animal Action received the following anonymous communique early this morning:
In the early hours of New Years Day, the Animal Liberation Front gained entry into Eggs R Us in Henderson Valley, West Auckland. 22 hens were liberated and have since been placed into new, loving homes. Video footage and photographs were obtained which will be used to further expose the atrocity that is battery farming.
Eggs R Us are well known for the disgusting conditions in which they keep ‘their’ thousands of hens. This farm has been targeted many times in the past few years and have had dozens of birds removed from their premises. After each action, they attempt to increase their security. But each time, activists have got past these increased security measures, which have included guard dogs, electric fencing (inside the sheds!), and locks.
We are fed up with the pathetic legal system which allows the immense suffering and exploitation of over 2.8 million battery hens in New Zealand. The vast majority of the public have expressed their disgust and opposition to the battery cage system. However, our government continues to consistently ignore the feelings of the New Zealand public. The recently reviewed codes of welfare released by Agriculture Minister Jim Sutton are nothing more than a cruel joke for the animals.
We have had enough of waiting for compassionate change within the legal system. We will continue to take the law into our own hands as long as these laws are unjust.
Your electric fencing, your alarm systems, your guns and your guard dogs are of no deterrent to us. We will continue to gain entry into your farms, exposing what you try to hide behind closed doors. We will continue to rescue ‘your’ animals from your foul animal factories, where they are exploited as if they were machines, and to place them in homes where they will be treated with the respect which they deserve as sentient beings.
Viva ALF!

Power to the ALF!
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
Well done to this cell of the ALF!!
Let this be only beginning of many more ALF actions for 2005!!!
Animals need all the help they can get so get off your ass and liberate some or for starters think about who your eating and go vege.
Animals liberated count is at 22 and it's only one day into 2005. Go ALF!!!
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
Well done, there are too few people taking action against the cruelty inflicted on farm animals in NZ, 'you done good'. There are several groups and organisations working for the elimination of this and other similar barbaric trades, but there are just not enough people involved nationwide. If enough people were to take action then things would have to change.
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
"think about WHO your eating"
thats a great way to put it!
And to the ALF whoever you may be Great Job, Keep It Up!
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
Once again I applaud your actions for exposing these evil practices on the creatures of this earth, that have every right to live a decent and peaceful life.
Good on you all, all the best for 2005
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
if only all the other liberation type movements in new zealand couldn't realise that direct action doesn't just save lives, it gets results.
go alf. where's the elf? and where are the anti-capitalist action groups?
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
What a great job ALF! Good start to the year.
The code is total crap and the govt. will never do anything.
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
I agree that governments will never do anything that will be of serious benifit to the animals.
Humans are, overall, a selfish, greedy species. I personally don't ever see Animal Liberation as coming about as long as humans dominate this Earth. But still, there must be some sort of officail effort..letter writing and lobbying are all needed.
But the ALF are vital to give some of these abused animals a real chance at freedom right now. And also to put some direct pressure on the abusers themselves.
Well done to this ALF cell. Can't wait to read about more liberations this year!
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
well done to those responsible! sending my love down under!
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
Now that's what I call celebrating New Years Eve!!!
bravo ALF
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
I think Sally has hit the nail on the head in saying humans are selfish and that the animal liberation movement won't come to much because of it. Well done, Sally!
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
Well done to ALF! The AR movement has tried all legal avenues to ban battery cages and sow stalls, and direct action is now the only option available.
I must however disagree with Tony and Sally. I can understand their frustration; I have felt it myself. SOME humans are evil. But lets not generalise. The ALF are effective because they expose the kind of cruelty that society as a whole generally has no awareness of. If humans were really that evil and selfish then there would be no point in their actions. Most people are opposed to battery hen cruelty and to sow stalls.
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
Phil, most people are for battery hens and sow stalls, so sorry to pop your bubble. If not then why does the law allow such things? (The law is a reflection of the society and the people it governs.)
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
"the law" is inflicted upon the people by corrupt power hugry low life money loving...........(add own additional insult here)!!!. It is not a reflection on society. What is a reflection on society is our apathy to allow this sort of crule treatment of animals to carry on.
Most people do not want battery farming but do not want to pay that extra couple of dollars for free range (for thoes who eat animal products....). Because we are conditioned that $$ is the ultimate and all powerful, so people try to save whateva the cost.
For the minority out there who are ready and willing to take action like this I send my love and respect! We do speak for the majority, we know that most people who see this disgrace will agree with the action taken! We will suffer no defeat! we will not give up! Fuck the government!
People of Aotearoa, keep up the fight
We are working towards what is fair, what is right
Fuck capitalism and the new regulations, show the scum they are wrong!

Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
actually there was an independant NZ poll asking if people would be willing to pay more for battery eggs and something like 70% said 'yes'.
Its a matter that quite a few egg companys pose as free range eggs with names like "vegetarian eggs" (battery) "barn raised".
And its totally beside the point what the 'masses' think because even if your are the only person who believe in animal liberation, it is still the right thing to do.
What I find interesting is that people are more than happy to see hens liberated. But farmers see that 'stolen propety'. Yet when other propety is damaged by the ALF with economic sabotage, that is decried. Hypocritical really.
Also I see all these comments from people all over the country, and yet very few liberations seem to be occuring. If battery hens ever needed our help, and if there was ever a time that the public will take notice of any sort of action, wether it sabotage or liberations, now is the time to act!
That means you, if you ethically support this, then physically support it. The ALF needs you. Homes, money and volenteers are always needed.

"Phil, most people are for battery hens and sow stalls, so sorry to pop your bubble. If not then why does the law allow such things? (The law is a reflection of the society and the people it governs.)"
Sorry to pop you bubble, but the law is a reflection of what buisiness can get away with (and legitimised by their mates, the state) depending on the amount of shit people are willing to put in their way. Of course, what shit people throw in their way depends on how much the government/official channels have channelled all their decent into letter and petition writing and how apathetic people are and also how many people 'vote' with their dollar. Most people who seem to care will probably go no further than buying 'free range' eggs or not eating eggs which pretty much sums up a boycott. Unfortunately boycotts ain't enough.
I say, way to go the ALF!!
Of course, whilst I think these kinds of action are inspiring and saves lives - I think the amount of action it is inspiring and the amount of $$ that the industry is loosing as a result, so far, isn't enough. Not only does there need to be more of this ALF type stuff, but there needs to be enough pressure to make them change. How much is this? Who knows - but more than what's happening.

Total Animal Liberation!
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
I agree with Adam that what the "masses" think has no bearing on whether something is right or wrong. It is however very important when considering whether something is winnable.
I personally do not think it is right to exploit any animals for the sake of human palates, but I realise that my view is a minority one and animal agriculture will not be banned in New Zealand in my lifetime. The battery hens and sow stalls issue is a different matter. Because most people support us, then I believe that a ban in 2005 is quite on the cards. This would come about through a combinations of legal challenges, lobbying and direct action.

Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
Bobo, respector, Adam and phil all make very good points. I do agree that the law is corrupt and is there to support a capitalist society, that we live in. However, don't go deluding yourselves that most people support you because of a survey, etc. If most people support you then why do eggs sell so well in supermarkets and road side stalls?
I'm sad to say that you people are pushing something up hill because you lot are fighting against the human nature to be selfish and greedy. Good luck, all!

Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
Anon only shows that the true nature of the animal rights movement are fascists thugs!
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
I certainly don't condone maltreatment of animals, but people who aggresively and zealously defend the rights of Hens whilst our so called educated society wages the most invasive and violent war against the most precious of our kind, unborn babies, is a complete failure of our intelligence and rationalism.
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
complete failure of our intelligence and rationalism?
I think it more shows that you "Geoff' need to get off your lazy arse and start doing the things you critize others for apparently not doing. Talk is cheap and unless you are doing something yourself you have no right critising those that are active and making changes in the areas they beleive in.
Re: New Years Day Battery Hen Liberation
