World not Bank
The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are meeting in
href="http://dc.indymedia.org"> Washington DC this weekend. People are protesting all over the globe against these two undemocratic and capitalist institutions.
The World Bank makes loans to its members to restructure a country's economic system by funding structural adjustment programs (SAP). These SAPs pursue economic liberalisation which results in worse conditions and pay for workers. Opposition to the World Bank and the IMF has been huge in recent years and has led to uprisings in Argentina and anti-capitalist struggles all over the world.
Neoconservative Paul Wolfowitz will become President of the World Bank on 1st June 2005. In his former job as U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense, he was a strong supporter of the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.
In Wellington Anti-Capitalist Super Friends drew attention to Free Trade. Workers and the environment suffer the most under Free Trade Agreements.

Re: World not Bank
seems like people are protesting everywhere but amerikkka. I guess the movement is over now there. I suppose it shouldn't come as much of a suprise seeing as though the imf/wb doesn't effect many amerikkkans.
America: Land of Bloodthirsty Psychos
USians don't protest because they don't care about anyone who isn't USian. I live here in Amerikkka (working my way to move away) and it is terrible how cold and callous the people are. They wouldn't care if the rest of the world was eradicated, they'd just go "Fuck YEA USA #1".
This place is psycho!

“The world's 225 richest people have a combined wealth equal to the combined annual income of the world's 2.5 BILLION poorest people.
A 4 percent levy on their wealth would provide adequate food, safe water and sanitation, basic education, basic health care and reproductive health care for all those in the developing countries.
In the USA the wealth of the top 1% is greater than that of the bottom 95%.
In Mexico 40 people own THIRTY PER CENT of the wealth in that country of 95 million people.
whilst according to the UN 2.6 billion people have no access to sanitation, 2 billion have no electricity and 100 million are homeless.
The richest THREE people in the world are wealthier than the poorest 48 countries.
The gap between rich and poor in Britain and America is similar to that in Nigeria and Brazil.”
Post 2:
“The United Nations has estimated that just $11 billion would pay for all the primary health care needs in all countries considered to be 'developing' (including safe, clean drinking water for everyone). Just $11 billion - one tenth of what rich countries spend on weapons every year.
The USA, Canada and Britain set up the World Bank. These 'donor countries' also set up the rules. 'Donor countries' vote on the WB Board according to the size of their 'donations'. The USA has always dominated the Bank.
With projects encouraged such as dam building for example the 'debtor country' pay the bills on all constructions - the final bill a massively hyped one through such as interest payments.
Cheap labour means massive profits for multinationals.
The World Bank encourages this.
Who benefits? - the multinationals and their western political puppets perpetrating these lies and abominations.
The World Bank and the IMF ( divisionless from multinationals)are killing thousands of people every week with their policies. They won't change unless they are forced to.”
Re: World not Bank
And this pattern is basically obvious in local structures of wealth relative to the state of economy. It shows an economic depressive mood reflected by 90% of the population while economic boom is pocketed by the 10%. This is also true of consequences such as the delay of the flue vaccine in and availability in its full strength because of book keeping purposes.
A very rich country can have its population dying from poverty, homelessness, and diseases. A large slice of its revenue is spent on arms and hobbies for the rich while its general population suffers from the lack basic necessities.
What’s to become of the general population if National, Act, and the Maori party becomes the next government? It is a serious lack of people participation, choices, deprivation of democratic processes, and is also demonstrated by the power of the Media to dictate the cause of political decisions.
National’s Market reformation needs a large population to replace the ailing one, while Maori is seeking a seat in the ruler’s quarters. It is unlikely the National’s right wing will stabilize any form of leadership with an indigenous tradition, while other minor parties have become too individualized to form a political will.
What has Helen Clark done or not done for the people will determine the outcome, but the people must have a say for a democratic government.
I am saying if Mr. Don Brash misses out on the election, he will find a job in the IMF or World Bank alongside Mr. Paul Wolfowitz in an allied destruction of developing worlds and the poor.
