Anti vivisection demos today
#media_5206;left# The ANZCCART vivisectors conference is being held in town [ Wellington ] today, and they are doing their best to hide from protesters. This morning we found them and a small group of activists have been annoying them all day.
heres an update on whats been happening today!
Last night, some known vivisectors were spotted coming out of a hotel in central Wellington. This morning at 7am, a bunch of activists spread out around Thorndon, and followed vivisectors as they left the hotel to see where they went. Several bunches of vivisectors were followed and they all ended up in one place. The Royal Society Buildings in Halswell St, Thorndon. It looks like they couldn’t find a proper venue at all and all the vivisectors are crammed into the Royal Society Buildings.
So, at 10-30 this morning a bunch of extremely pissed off activists turned up with drums and stuff and proceeded to deafen the vivisectors and ruin their little meeting. After an hour of this, we jumped into cars and headed out to Hutt valley for a pre arranged visit to the labs out there.
[ Photos ]
Wallaceville Animal Research Station was the first stop. AgResearch killed 61,000 animals last year in agricultural and genetic experiments. Dozens of cops were waiting for us at the main gate so we decided to jump the fence instead. About fifteen protesters got into the grounds and entered a large lab building. AgResearch staff panicked and locked all the internal doors. Some people managed to hang a banner on a roof and some others got to have a wander through some boring unattended offices. A small group found some sheep in pens with experimental equipment attached and strange scars on their heads from a recent operation. Photos were taken and will appear soon I’m sure.
Then swarms of cops appeared and started herding us out of the grounds. Two activists were arrested as we were leaving, and held for a few minutes before they decided to let us go without charge. Both were trespassed from Wallaceville for two years.
Schering Plough Animal health (33 Whakatiki Street, Upper Hutt) was the next stop. They torture guinea pigs to death here in "very severe suffering" experiments. We spent half an hour telling them what we think of their disgusting habits before leaving and heading back to Wellington.
Tomorrow morning at 8.30am we are meeting at the Royal Society, 4 Halswell Street,Thorndon, to greet the vivisectors as they arrive for the final day of their conference.
The final demo will be at the same venue (4 Halswell Street, Thorndon) at noon tomorrow to give the vivisectors a good send off and make sure they never want to return to wellington again.
We need everyone we can get to the Tuesday demos. 8.30am and 12 noon! Demos may go mobile all over town from there, so meet us at the Royal Society at those two times.

6 people were arrested following a short sharp loud demo at the MAF (Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry) head office in wellington on tuesday.

You lot havin fun, good, keep to saven the FurBalls.
Tuesday demos
Tuesday went well.
At 5-30am on Tuesday morning, activists with drums did a wake up call for some vivisectors staying at the Portland Hotel in Thorndon. Everyone in the hotel woke up and activists disapeared before the cops arrived.
At 8.30am we did a demo as the vivisectors arrived for the final day of the conference. Aftyer that a small group of people charged into the Ministry of Agriculture head office on the Terrace. leaflets went flying and its possible the fire alarms went off due to over excitement. anyway, everyone left, but the cops started searching the area and arrested 5 people as they were leaving, ranging in age from 17 to 85!
Then we had a final demo at Noon as the vivisectors were leaving. At the end of this a cop car arrived with some printouts from the security cameras from the MAF office and cops started pointing out people to arrest. One more person was arrested here and a few more who were pointed out disappeared.
In all, six were arrested. All have been charged with "disorderly behaviour" and "being unlawfully in a building".
everyone was held for four hours or so but is out now. Court is on Monday.

Great stuff - special cheers to the unstoppable Margaret J.!
Re: Anti vivisection demos today
Animal research takes human lives as well as (obviously) causing animal suffering. It is a useless, cruel, horrible waste of lives and research resources.
Massive respect to everyone who made it down to Poneke for these actions and especially big ups to those arrested and facing court action. Waikato animal rights folx are with you in spirit.
