Aotearoa Revolutionary Clown Army starts major offensive against enemy
Revolutionary Clowns took to the streets of Wellington to raise awareness of the upcoming weapons conference being hosted at Te Papa Tongarewa "Our Place" on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 18 and 19.
The so-called 'Defence Industry Association' is holding its annual conference where arms dealers will showcase their latest weapons of horror. The conference is an opportunity for NZ manufacturers to better 'market' their products to overseas militaries, such as the US Army, and Israeli Defence Force. Past delegates to the conference have included representatives from Halliburton, General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin. Lockheed Martin proudly proclaims that it "is a global leader in the design, development and production of missiles and missile defence solutions for the United States and its allies around the world. The goal: Defend against attacks by ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and other airborne threats."
Peace Action Wellington is actively campaigning against a weapons trade in Aotearoa New Zealand. the clowns visited Marian Hobbes on their way through Wellington. Unfortunately Marian wasn't around and missed out on great clowing FUN... her office was stickered in a clownly manner.

Aotearoa's revolutionary clowning history dates from at least 1981, when three clowns attended the anti-apartheid protests in Auckland (I think) and joined police lines armed with baguettes. Towards the end of the day the police beat the living shit out of them, which caused something of a uproar at the time. The cops involved weere never identified.

I dunno TW, seems like taking the piss out of the military is pretty appropriate. Double that with obscuring your identity. Triple it with making people laugh. Quadruple it by having fun. Heck, I'm beginning to think this clowning could just catch on.

always so glad to see these sorts of actions, Clowns do scare the cops! something spooky about clowns, when they mean business.

Speaking as a Regimental Sergeant Major of the UK Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army (but sh!), I'd like to declare my appreciation for and solidarity with the Aotearoa Revolutionary Clown Army.
Great thing about clowning is the police have to use proper procedure against you (stuff your pockets with fun toys for searches!); and while they can hit other protestors, they're often really reluctant to whack clowns. The trick is to find clowny forms of direct action; blocking roads, closing down buildings, etc.

note to the person who asked about face painting classes - don't worry bout that, MUCH more important is proper clown training.
the originating European contingent insist on at least two days of intensive games, inner clown discovery etc for anyone wanting to don the 'uniform' and go out on operations.
and after this kind of training, you'll find no need for classses in face painting - the lunacy comes naturally!

clowns are a f*ckin brilliant tactic- ever seen a line of cops shittin themselves because of a bunch of painted fools? spent some time with them in gleneagles an i can't praise them highly enough, total good fun an v.v.efficient, saved my arse more than once over there (can't run away when you're a medic) nice to see them takin over the world ;)

So has there been success in this idea of a clown army!? It seems that most our asking on the list; when, why, how to start this thing.....I would ask is it stopping the arms race. I don't know I think we are a little more clever maybe, not that I do not commend the efforts....At one time a Jester in court had and affect on policy, because he or she would use there wits of character and intellect....
