We would like to invite you to participate in the Aotearoa Indymedia Convergence. On Friday the 2nd of February Indymedia will hold an evening of political films and documentaries at Auckland University followed by two days of workshops, discussions, skillshares and planning meetings on Saturday the 3rd and Sunday the 4th.
Aotearoa Indymedia is the local spoke of the global Indymedia network, an alternative, non-corporate, volunteer run media organisation designed to provide open access to the media for voices of dissent and social change as well as to share stories that would otherwise go unreported. The purpose of this event is to create space for a range of people involved in independent media in Aotearoa to: * meet each other and learn about each other's projects * discuss issues affecting media freedom and access * brainstorm strategy and tactics for what we can do to make media that allow communities to share their stories rather than media that broadcasts the profit-motivated propaganda of corporations and their lackeys.
There will be practical workshops on media skills for people to learn new ways to communicate with each other. Workshops include: photography skills, video making and editing, setting up community radio, running radio shows, and writing and researching articles for social change.
There will also opportunities to talk about how existing and potential Indymedia tools could help media activists achieve their own organisational goals and to plan collaborations and new projects for 2007 and beyond.
Some discussion will be focused on reviewing the work that has been done in the development of the Aotearoa Independent Media Centre (IMC) including: * the open-publishing news website at http://aotearoa.indymedia.org * establishment of country-wide working groups (eg radio and video) * establishment of local groups to connect us with active communities and carry out projects like film screenings and the W(i)ndy print publication.
The programme will be as flexible as possible and is open to suggestions and additions from all like minded individuals and groups who believe that reclaiming the media from the millionaire moguls of corporate power is an important part in building a more democratic and open society. So if you would like to present a workshop or facilitate a discussion, please email imc-aotearoa@lists.indymediaSTOPSPAM.org with details.
Please pass this invite on to others in your group and networks who might be interested.

Hi
I would like to be along at the convergence. If you have a spot for someone to talk about issues like media ownership and free radio then I would be happy to talk.

Re: Indymedia Convergence Feb 2-4 in Auckland
The previous Indymedia conference was in Wellington, so we decided to make this one in Auckland to spread it all around. There's regular Wellington Indymedia meetings though, if people want to get involved.

Re: Indymedia Convergence Feb 2-4 in Auckland
hi,
Peace Not War potentially ready to set up & launch in Aotearoa.
Very very pleased to see we in good company.
Indymedia,UK, is stongly intertwined with our own crew there, but as I dont get out and about much in the world of web communication, I bit slow to gather you lot are thriving here too! BRILLIANT.
If you not yet familiar with who we are/ wot we do, please check out www.peace.fm .
Certainly have time & interest in facilitating workshop, creating forum &/or contributing visuals over the weekend of 2/3 Feb.
What I would focus on is function of PNW in Aotearoa. I see potential for us in bridging areas of independant Human Rights/Environmental/ Anti-war campaigns as well as bringing freshness & creativity to our political actions.
I also gotta connect in with like minded folk to bring PNW into the concoiusness of our country, and form as a working crew.
Cheers for your time, Baraka

Yup, you can help get more Indymedia stuff happening in Whanganui-a-Tara by joining the email list and making some suggestions:
http://lists.indymedia.org/imc-wellington
Meetings are currently held once and month at Oblong Infoshop in the Left Bank (off Cuba Mall).
For people in other areas who want to do local organising, there is a simple process for making contact with the AIM crew and getting a new local group started:

spam?
Re: Spam? - No mad ramblings backed up by random nonsense
Actually, no one can tell what you are talking about. Try writing slowly, take a deep breath, don't run together unrelated comments, or make spurious abusive claims.
No offense mate, I am genuienly interested in what you are saying, but it seems like you would be better served just getting on with whatever it is you want to be doing, rather than spending all your time writing these unreadable posts to indymedia every couple of days.
