Wellington: Save Happy Valley film screening this Friday!
Save Happy Valley Wellington is holding a film screening this Friday for anyone interested in joining either of our two occupations or finding out more about the campaign.
Save Happy Valley and Mt Augustus - Join the occupations
Film Screening
Friday February 16th, 6:30pm
128 Community House, 128 Abel Smith St
The Save Happy Valley Coalition (SHVC) has been occupying Happy Valley for over a year in order to save it from being destroyed by state-owned coal miner Solid Energy. Over the weekend of the 27-28th January, over 60 people walked in to join the occupation and celebrate the first anniversary. On Monday 5th February, SHVC members began an occupation on DOC land on Mt Augustus to save habitat of Great Spotted Kiwi (Roa) and Powelliphanta Augustus.
Both occupations need your help! If you are interested in joining either at any stage in the next few months, or if you want to find out more about the campaign, you are invited to a screening of two films about SHVC.
Both films are from late 2006. The first was made by members of SHV Christchurch and details why we are opposed to a coal mine in Happy Valley and what SHVC has done so far. It includes some stunning visuals from the Valley itself. The second film was made by students and teachers at Unlimited Paenga Tawhiti, a high school in central Christchurch that spent 5 weeks learning about issues relating to the campaign. The film details a march through central Christchurch organised by the students in support of the campaign.
See you on Friday!
