really awesome the effort you guys put in. chch is so flat and great for bikes and walking - if ppl wanna drive they should go drive sumwhere..to the beach or to visit the west coast or sumthing.

I don’t know what all the commotion is about. So what if The Hack Circle goes? People can still hang out at the other end of Cashel Mall by The Bridge of Remembrance or go to Victoria or Latimer Squares. Being on the banks of The Avon River and/or in a park setting is a much more pleasant environment to chat to friends in than sitting amongst the concert and asphalt. It’s what the youth use to do before The Hack Circle existed.

It’s a pity that the younger generation car race because it will be that generation that will suffer the repercussions of it the most. Since cars burn fossil fuel that dump untold amounts of carbon into the Earth’s atmosphere that contribute to the global warming/climate change/greenhouse effect crises it will be the youth and younger generation of today that will live with the mess from this type of mindless behaviour the longest.

I advise the people that do drive around in circles going nowhere not be a slave to convention of the car culture, so the privileged few in the car, car audio and oil industry can make a profit from, and stop doing it. Just because the older generation did it is a weak argument to continue doing it. Otherwise, you’re screwed on many levels. For example: needing to shift from coastal cities to live on higher ground or paying higher taxes and rates to pay for dykes to protect those cities. (Since Chch was build on a swamp and on the coast it will be the first to be hit by the rising ocean levels caused by global warming.)

Think for yourselves and behave out of enlightened self-interest - instead of being brain dead puppets to the past and to the captains of industry that make a profit from cars and the of burning fossil fuels!

The people in it deserve this demise because all they seem to worry about is inconsequential stuff like: fighting over a piece of asphalt turf, street racing, drugs and if they have music or not.

If teenagers today car race and stuff up the planet in the process then I don’t feel guilty in not recycling by dumping my rubbish in roadside bins and tossing other trash on the road. What’s the point in recycling when the people that will gain the most from it burn rubber doing doughnuts while using nonrenewable fossil fuels?

Unlimtied Paenga tawhit students meet memebers of the central business association to discuss planned revitalisation of city mall.
Our meeting was extremely positive, everyone had a chance to share ideas and take part. Feedback on our ideas from the CBA was positive and generally a consensus was met on what to do about the road etc.
Discussion focused on three general areas, the road, aesthetics and youth with youth being the most divisive issue that highlighted a lot of different opinions between us and the CBA, youth and drug problems in the hack was underlined as Paul from Robert Harris citing 80% of his customers having "perceived" intimidation problems with youth. Overcoming this is really a burden upon the customers of Robert Harris to overcome their narrow-minded stereotypes not on the city council to revitalise and destroy an import cultural and social area to appease the few.
A future meeting was suggested as well as regularity, this was viewed as a really positive thing that can start happening to build relationships in our community between our school and business.

it is interesting that ANTHONY GOUGH wants a bylaw to prohibit private passengers driving down the oxford strip where he OWNS many of the bars on the strip because of the conflict between motorists and drunken pedestrians, to quote him from the press on 22/5/07 "WE THINK IT WOULD BE A GREAT IDEA TO CLOSE IT" and "TRAFFIC AND PEOPLE DONT MIX VERY WELL" yet he is one of the driving forces to introduce cars into a public mall area well patronized by school children, mothers with children and older people shopping etc it is even more interesting that our MAYOR GARY MOORE in the same artical said people spilling out onto the road MADE THE AREA DANGEROUS so HE SUPPORTED the idea as well, given that he is a driving force behind the new mall road preposal. OBVIOUSLY the SAFTEY OF DRUNKEN ADULTS MATTERS MORE THAN THAT OF CHILDREN AND ADULTS SHOPPING OR ENJOYING THE MALL CAR FREE ENVIROMENT. It is also strange to note that he organised a parent meeting to discuss youth saftey after the deaths and injurys at the party in Edgwere to highlight issues of youth saftey when he plans to endanger people by changing a public walking space back into a road. IT IS VERY CLEAR BY THEIR ACTIONS THAT THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT THE DOLLAR VALUE OF THE LIVES THAT THEY DECIDE MATTER and no one else counts,

the privitisation of public space is a big global threat. discussing it does not subordinate other issues affecting the city's people. if you think corporations ruling ever more of your life is no threat then you would be wise to read your history and think about where things are headed if you do nothing to halt the takeover of people by profit.
