Re: PHOTOS: AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY PROTEST

Notice that the Workers Party was not there. Is this another indigenous struggle they don't support? They already condemned Motoua Gardens and the S and F. Is Aboriginal nationalism also illegit because it doesn't meet the conditons Stalin laid down in 1907? Leaders of the vanguard indeed...

Comrades from the WP were there

and played a leading role alongside comrades from SW.

Re: PHOTOS: AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY PROTEST

jared was there when i was getting manhadled by two cops - sorry anonymous but u dont know what you are on about.

Re: PHOTOS: AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY PROTEST

how come Aboriginal land rights are OK to defend but not the land rights of Maori?

Fuck off trolls and stirrers

The socialist and anarchist left in Aotearoa have a record second to none in supporting struggles for Tinoranga Tiratanga

Not all of them:

Now that the academics are arguing over who is or isn't a stalinist, let us just refer to one of the the Workers Partys own websites for clarity.

Here under "publications", you can read an article entitled "The Maori In Prehistory and Today" by their founder, Ray Nunes in which he approvingly quotes Stalins criteria for the existence of a nation and then uses this to deny the existence of a maori nation. So there is no change here for WP-ites.

Re: PHOTOS: AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY PROTEST

yeah, the SW are doing what they always do - jumping on a band-wagon to get more 'members' so they can take over. Pity their numbers are still so small!

Re: Re: PHOTOS: AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY PROTEST

I am always amazed by people who want demos restricted to people who are only politically correct by their standards. Kick off SW, kick off the WP... what's next? Vegans-only? Anyone with leather shoes to be handed over to the cops?

Anarchists for and against Aboriginals' right to self-determination:

Re: PHOTOS: AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY PROTEST

regardless of politics - there was white people supporting indigenous rights, landrights and self determination on the day - and there was during the hikoi as well. and there always will be!

Good on SW (and WP and RY and Greens on campus)

People on the left profess that they are motivated by the valuers of solidarity, love and unity. Yet all to often on the internet or in activist circles we hear nothing except backbiting, sneering and armchair generalising.

Comrades like those who were active in the Australian Consulate occupation are light years ahead of the cowardly keyboard warriors who bang on about bandwaggons, programmatic purity etc etc etc.

The left wing groups may be small, but if groups like SW (and WP and RY) keep on fighting the good fights in solidarity with causes like the Muliaga family, Aboriginal Australia, Climate Change and workers rights then they will eventually grow. Already a new wave of young committed activists have done so.

Now for a real revolutionary, that is thousands of times more desirable than the opinions of a stay at home internerd expert who bemoans every action in the real world as having been organised by this or that real group that doesnt share his or her cyber purity.

Where is the love? Good on all those who took direct action on Monday, and good on all the people from SW, WP, RY, Greens on Campus and the unions who are working together in a spirit of REAL solidarity and love.

Re: Good on SW (and WP and RY and Greens on campus)

amazing how many wrong assumptions you make there buddy.

Re: PHOTOS: AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY PROTEST

if anyone was there can they make a witness statement and email it to tane4@hotmail.com this week.

cheers

Re: PHOTOS: AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY PROTEST

Are we talking about indigenous people's struggle or our own groups and parties?

Get your priorities right, please!

Re: PHOTOS: AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY PROTEST

Kick off the WP? No, get them involved! Point is that they should be consistent and support indigenous land rights in NZ as well as Aus. We want them involved, not sitting on the sidelines and sneering.

Re: Re: PHOTOS: AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY PROTEST

???? WP were involved in the Australian Consulate action, as you would know if you had been there yourself.

Now, can we get back to the main issue of organising practical solidarity, instead of ranting on about the theoretical brilliance of Owen Gager et al vs the "evil Stalinist" Ray Nunes

Re: PHOTOS: AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY PROTEST

don't forget the anarchists who took part in the occupation! i ran out of time to get to the protest myself (work and busy preparing social centre) but would have been there if i could!

as whoever posted the link to the libcom discussion has highlighted there are anarchists as well as communists who have poorly worked out relationships with indigenous struggle and national liberation movement theory and practice.

Re: PHOTOS: AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY PROTEST

would of been great to have seen more australians.....

Re: PHOTOS: AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY PROTEST

Too right Omar, and really is now the right time to be worrying about what the Workers Party (or whichever other small lefty group) have or haven't said/done in the past, and in the scheme of supporting indigenous self-determination does it matter?

And if it really does matter to you right now - why not take it up with them personally, or write to their mag, rather than grandstanding on Indymedia?

Let's get on with the action, and keep spreading the word about what's happening. Howard's actions are so bloody obviously evil-minded, I hope we'll have a decent show of support here in Poneke/Wellington.

This is not our website. It is an old website of one of the small groups that led to the founding of the ACA, which then became Workers Party purely because we felt it was the best name to call our group.

I think the WP should do some theoretical work on the question of nationalities in formation.

Essentially the pro-treaty line and white guilting of the left is what we are contesting.

Also, a lot of us don't rule out the idea of autonomous regions.

We resolutely oppose Howard's movements in the Northern Territory, and would resolutely oppose any such movments in regions of high Maori population density in New Zealand.

I thought the debate started by Bryce was a very worhtwhile exercise. Some good points were made against the post, especially with regard to rural-living Maori.

It's not an issue of Stalinism, seeing the authors of the article are both of Trotskyist backgrounds, but an issue of the left coming to terms with national politics in an imperiliast country.
