Global Justice Campaigners to Protest USNZ Partnership Forum in September
Media Advisory: Our World Is Not For Sale Campaign
Auckland, New Zealand
August 13, 2007
Global justice campaigners, activists, environmentalists and trade unionists will
converge on the United States New Zealand Partnership Forum in September to protest against New Zealand seeking a free trade agreement with the United States.
Between the 9th and 11th of September, 2007, Auckland will host the second annual "United States New Zealand Partnership Forum". The forum
brings together representatives of the two governments as well as from major US and NZ corporations to work on tightening the economic and political links between the two nations.
A protest has been organised to raise awareness about the negative effects of a free trade agreement between the United States and New
Zealand
"A free trade deal would put all of New Zealand up for sale to US corporations", Our World Is Not For Sale campaign spokesperson Omar Hamed said. "If a US-NZ trade deal looks anything like the recently negotiated Australian-US free trade deal then our public services will be up for privatisation, local content quotas removed from TV and radio and environmental protections removed."
"We also don't think the Labour government should seek a trade agreement with a government that continues to wage war in Iraq. The Prime
Minister herself has labelled this war as 'wrong'." says Omar Hamed.
"Trade agreements should not be negotiated with governments violating international laws and treaties."
A protest rally will begin in Aotea Square at 12pm on Monday September 10 before marching to the Partnership Forum at the Auckland War Memorial Museum. More information on the protests and the campaign are available on www.notforsale.org.nz
Our World Is Not For Sale campaign spokesperson Omar Hamed is available for interview and to comment on the protests on 021 150 3597

Re: Global Justice Campaigners to Protest USNZ Partnership Forum
[Defence Minister Phil Goff says there would be no obstacle for a visit to New Zealand by a United States Coast Guard vessel, though none is planned in the foreseeable future.
He did not believe the New Zealand public or the Government would have a problem with a visit.
"If the invitation was requested by the United States we would most happily do that but we are allowing the United States to set the pace for those sort of arrangements. We are not trying to push the boundaries," he told the Herald.
"They are moving the boundaries ... out from where they may have been some time ago but they are doing it at a pace that is in accordance with their feelings on it."]

It looks like Mr. Goff is not even considering selling NZ, he has already planned to surrender it to the yanks! It's up to them to do what they feel like with NZ....
