Melbourne Report and Photos
70 People from various groups gathered today in Federation Square, Melbourne, to demonstrate in solidarity with Tuhoe and the the activist community in Aotearoa.
Melbourne activists today gathered in support of the people of Tuhoe and the Aotearoa activist community in the wake of recent police repression.
Robbie Thorpe performed a welcome to country and gave us all a much needed reminder of the struggles of Aboriginal People and how this oppression is felt by indigenous people all over the world.
Other speeches followed by people of Aoteraoa and Australia in support of those arrested and their families. And discussed the issues raised by this crack down in relation to the global trend of the criminalisation of dissent.
Donations were collected for the support fund and cupcakes were enjoyed by all!

Also speaking was Carmen, from the Mapuche in Chile. Also present were two members of the Australian Federal Police(?), possibly compiling -- quite jealously, no doubt -- pictures of the extraordinarily handsome folks who gathered in protest, perhaps to add to their photo-album for the annual office Xmas party, who knows?
