Message of support to arrestees
The Wellington October 15th Solidarity Group sends a message of unconditional support and solidarity to the people arrested today in Maketu and Ruatoki.
"We send our love and support to the people of Tuhoe and others affected by the arrests since October 15th 2007. The events of today can only add to the trauma they have experienced" said a spokesperson for the group. "We support their struggle for Te Mana Motuhake O Tuhoe and Tino Rangatiratanga".
"These arrests are the continuation of the state persecution of Tuhoe. After the embarrassing collapse of their attempt to use the Terrorism Suppression Act, the police are intent on substituting quantity for quality in charges and evidence. Despite two years and $9 million of surveillance resulting in many tens of thousands of pages of supposed evidence, police know the charges they have against the original defendants aren't going to stick, so they are rounding up more people in a racist effort to vilify the entire Tuhoe people in the public mind."
There will be a rally starting at 12pm on Saturday, 26 February, 2007 at Manners Mall in Wellington to show our support with the arrested and to inform the public.
We demand:
- all charges be dropped against all defendants
- no more police raids, no more arrests
- repeal all terrorism laws
- leave Tuhoe alone

Today's "protest" in Manners Mall
Whilst I beieve the Police and Government response to Tuhoe activism is at times extreme, I don't believe all parties arrested are completely innocent either.
People who train in weapons and speak of hurting, terrorising and/or blowing other people up are a danger to society.
I watched an enthusiastic young man speak in Manners Mall today. He spoke of how anyone else imprisoned for their "anarchist" beliefs will be "freed by the people" - what a load of rubbish.
He went on to say that his trial for involvement in the October 2007 raids may involve 2 months in court, the longest of any trial in NZ history... does this guy do any actual research into the facts at all?
Then the charming woman who spoke expressed her concern at the disproportionate criminalisation of maori in this country. Is it inconvenient to consider that maori also OFFEND disproportionate amount of in this country? An enormously disproportion amount of rape, murder, child abuse, other violence and crimes around drugs involve maori offenders (and victims).
It appears the anarchist movement in nz is seriously impeded in gaining public credibility by an apparent lack of an intelligent approach by its most active members.
To label people with an alternate view to one's own in any negative way is ignorant, arrogant counter-productive and ironically very one-eyed... the very attitude that so many "activists" love to accuse "straight" people of.
Any wonder then that most people who are prepared to identify with this movement appear to be a bunch of wasted idlers?
Re: Message of support to arrestees
Finally somebody talking sense, however I'm afraid that you will likely be shouted down by more ill informed wasters..Kepp posting though, your's is a voice of sense.

The thing is the police have not been able to discern the difference between perceived threats and real threats. Tuhoe sovereignty is not a movement set about to create terrorism in this country, never has and never will. It is the crown that has been the perpetrator of that on the Tuhoe and other iwi.
A few dark conversations do not equate to terrorism. Any half trained intelligence gathering organisation would know this.
This is why Dr Michael Bassett referred to you all in an article about Tuhoe in the SMH, as being severely lacking in intelligence, and he wasn't referring to information gathering either.
Sure there are gun laws in this country that have probably been broken by this lot, noone is disputing this and they will each do their turn in court for those charges and good luck to them all.
But this case is still not just about arms charges, the 16 were first accused of terrorism when no terrorist act had taken place, no plans for such a thing were discovered. This is the bit we are pointing out. The disgraceful actions of the state that set about to imprison citizens of this country for peace of mind in staged and managed media raids last year designed to terrorise the nation with this perception that activists were planning to kill innocent people all over the country with bombs and whatever.
Yet all their evidence of such a thing came down to a bunch of silly text messages and a couple of dark conversations discussing theoretical senarios.
Where in the history of this country has anyone ever been charged with terrorism and then had that reduced to some minor gun charges?
When in the history of this country has the entire police intelligence report been leaked to the media, distributed on websites making sure as many people as possible read the irrelevant gathered intelligence, before the accused see a day in court?
How the hell are these people supposed to get a fair trial with all that hanging over their heads.
The activist communities credibility is not what is on the line here, many of the public I have spoken to already recognise the states, and the ruling executives hand in all of this just as easily as they have seen the same with the recent medals heist and the executive stepping in to push the police to pay the ransom for the return of the medals and release a violent criminal out on bail.
It is the belief in justice, and the protection of the justice system from state interference that is on the line here.

I was a soldier on the Queens Shilling for 13yrs and we used the term harrass rather than terrorise but that was pretty much us.
And yes we were trained for domestic use as well.
Kia kaha to the arrested and you families.
I expect a few expired licences might prove a prob but there is nothing else.
Best wishes from Christchurch.
