Auckland Philippines Solidarity Network invites you to

SOCIAL REALITIES IN THE PHILIPPINES

an exhibition of photos taken by Simon Oosterman during a 2008 solidarity visit to the Philippines.

This event will mark the launch of Auckland Philippines Solidarity. APS has been founded to campaign around human rights (Stop the Killings campaign) and trade union rights (with a local focus on Nestle and ANZ) in the Philippines, and also to establish a systematic and wide-reaching solidarity fund in New Zealand. APS will also be working closely with Migrante Aotearoa to build support networks for new migrants who are being forced to work in extra-exploitative conditions in New Zealand.

Short presentations by Luke Coxon (APS spokesperson), Jane Kelsey, and Dennis Maga (Migrante Aotearoa) will be preceded by drinks and food at 4.30pm.

Saturday September 20, 4.30pm, Langtons, Maungawhau Summit, Mt Eden, Auckland.

We want you to…

MIGRANTE Aotearoa
SPEAK OUT
We speak out because we have rights.
Forum
Venue: Langston,
Maungawhau Summit, Mt. Eden
2-4.30pm, Saturday Sept. 20th 2008

The public plight of migrant workers in New Zealand is often discussed by others, rather than migrant workers themselves. On September 20th 2008, Migrante Aotearoa and Auckland Philippines Solidarity are sponsoring a forum to hear migrant workers from the Filipino and other migrant nationalities speak out about their experiences and propose their solutions to problems they face. Trade unionists, politicians and migrant advocates will be present to hear and respond to the issues raised. There will be clinics with unionists and lawyers to assist with workplace and immigration problems.

The SPEAK OUT will conclude with an afternoon tea and the launching of the APS – Auckland Philippines Solidarity.

Program:
Speak Out: 2 – 3pm
Migrant Representatives share their issues
(Migrante Aotearoa, Migrant Action Trust, CTU Komiti Pasefika and other migrant organisations and individuals are welcome to share their views).

What are the solutions? 3 – 4pm
Panel response includes:
• Keith Locke (Green MP Party)
• Carol Beaumont (Council of Trade Union and Labour MP Candidate)
• Representative from Maori Party
• Greg Lloyd (Employment Relations Solicitor)
• Paulo Garcia (Immigration Solicitor)

Clinic: 4 – 4:30pm
