Fairfax gets off, no surprises there.
Fairfax was today judged not guilty of contempt of court by Wellington's High Court. Fairfax published leaked suppressed evidence in the Operation 8 trials late last year, in clear violation of a court order.
The suppressed evidence published by Fairfax in the Dominion Post was only the most controversial portions of transcripts of recorded conversations between defendants. It was released shortly after the Police were denied the power to press terrorism charges and was no longer admissible under the comparatively minor arms charges which had to be pursued instead. In all probability, the evidence was leaked by the Police themselves to save face after their terrorism investigation fell over on its face.
This is ironic since the High Court's ruling means that it is now up to the Police to prosecute Fairfax for breached suppression orders and breaking the law banning unauthorised publication of extracts from intercepted communications. I'll bet Fairfax are bracing themselves for the sharp slap on the wrist they will no doubt soon receive. That is, if the Police even bother laying charges, since Fairfax was acting in their interests all along.

The establishment looks after its own. Due to the statute of limitations I suspect no police prosecution will occur.
Re: Fairfax gets off, no surprises there.
What happened to innocent until proven? Fucking hypocrites!
Re: Fairfax gets off, no surprises there.
remember that time at the "terror" trial when the media and police were all standing round pointing at the evidence and talking, laughing at what i can assume were awful jokes? Thhen we walked in, and they thought the door was locked maybe... oh the sheepish looks, the quick moves back to their seats with thoes stupid innocent looks on their fucking corrupt faces.
a few days later i asked one how they cold sleep at night, she told me that the people of nw zeealaand deserved the truth... who the fuck will give them that?? NOT THE CORPORATE MEDIA!!!!!!
Re: Fairfax gets off, no surprises there.
"What happened to innocent until proven? Fucking hypocrites!" The two high court judges stated that they believed the actions of Fairfax were unlawful. The real issue is they were not being charged with unlawful publication but with contempt of court and since what they did was unlawful and not an issue of contempt of court, then the rest goes without saying. The only reason Fairfax is not facing charges of unlawful publication of suppressed transcripts is that the police did not charge them. What you are saying is that because they have been found to be not in contempt of court, therefore the rest of what the judges said should be discarded? I would have thought comments of that nature by high court judges should warrant an independant police enquiry by Justice Goddard into what is clearly a police cover-up. Were Fairfax to have been charged with unlawful publication by the police, those two judges would have found them guilty as sin without question. So to your innocent before being proven guilty, well i think we are at least past that now, now its an issue of 'why werent they charged by police', why did the police selectively choose not to charge Fairfax for what is clearly an unlawful act?

While there is no doubt that the police leaked a lot of information to politicians and the media over the period following the arrests, it is almost certain that the information which led to the Fairfax articles wasn't leaked by the cops. We should really stop suggesting that it was...
Re: Fairfax gets off, no surprises there.
It was leaked by a police informant and the leak was blamed on one of the arrestees.
Re: Fairfax gets off, no surprises there.
Of course it was no surprise. The NZ Po-Lice and the NZ MSM work hand in glove. The Po-Lice always ensure a trial by media before matters get to court.
They do not charge their buddies, they protect them, and this was just another example of the methods employed.
Re: Fairfax gets off, no surprises there.
You heard it here first.
Don't expect the official media to attack their cronies.
Re: Fairfax gets off, no surprises there.
Yeh because the media and fairfax in particular never criticize the Police?? Yeh right....
So we can criticize and protest against arms dealers and the violence they cause, while at the same time supporting those who turn to guns and violence to overthrow this evil labour government?
Might want to look a bit closer to home when raving about hypocrits and injustice eh?

"So we can criticize and protest against arms dealers and the violence they cause, while at the same time supporting those who turn to guns and violence to overthrow this evil labour government?"
No we cant. You're right. Go crawl up in the corner and die, thats all 'we' can do.
The reason is because you cannot comprehend the SIMPLE difference between traders in bombs and weapons who arm both sides of wars for profit, who have armed the NZ Police with 600 military grade M4A1 assault rifles to be used against the NZ civilian population, dealers who have sold technologies to the US further enhancing their ability to invade other countries to take their oil, between those actions and, a couple of activists who are accused of possessing hunting rifles.
So because you cannot determine the difference between those two, and time and time again make these stupid fucking comments like you have above in other comments fields, then yeah the best advice I can give you is to look deep into a mirror and say these following words.
"I am fucked in the head"

ps: be careful going to that blogspot site using MSIE. It has a tendency to crash your pc causing a restart.
Re: Fairfax gets off, no surprises there.
The probably cause is half open syn tcp connections causing a tcpip stack overflow. Bad coding on the site and a bad browser. Use Firefox.
Re: Fairfax gets off, no surprises there.
Possibly also to do with the code in the site that monitors visitors and logs their IP addresses, something that Indymedia site *never* do.

Strypey
Re: Fairfax gets off, no surprises there.
I speak from 1st hand experience when I say that the cops have too much power in court proceedings.
I was completely innocent but because I rubbed the cops the wrong way they dragged my ass thru 2 court hearings just to announce that they had no evidence.
Fuck that, it's a waste of everyone's resources to wast time like that!
Re: Fairfax gets off, no surprises there.
They have since changed the code Strypey. Its just down to an issue of bad coding practice now.
