Media Release from the National Distribution Union

Hamilton bus drivers employed by Go Bus have been locked out for planning to offer passengers free fares.

Karl Andersen from the National Distribution Union says the drivers began a one day strike this morning and planned to refuse to accept fares on an ongoing basis.

“The company has responded by locking the drivers out indefinitely,” he says.

The drivers are paid $13.50 an hour and are trying to negotiate a new pay scale that would take them to $16 an hour.

I'll second Jared's comments, all solidarity to the Hamilton bus drivers.

The Wellington drivers won, now its Hamilton's turn!

Re: Bus Drivers Locked Out for Offering Free Rides

Myself & my children use the buses regularly. It is ridiculous to xpect grownups not to want to be paid fairly. Our bus drivers earn just over the minimum wage, that is ridiculous. These drivers have familys to provide for, bills to pay, etc.. come on! Algud drivers, I certainly hope they succeed.

Re: Bus Drivers Locked Out for Offering Free Rides

Next thing you know the bosses will tell you that nuclear wars are good for you especially in the worlds holyland especially as Christmass approaches. No they have billions and trillions stashed, from the socially necessary labour done for the betterment of society. They have a mint with which they can easily make up the raise that the workers need. The governance is supposed to serve the peoples interests and not be repressive to the workers by locking them out. Even environmentally the busses are a friendly way to travel. Albeit, the electric motors and that the oil monoplies have bought out and suppressed are the pollution free zones. It just shows that monopoly capitalism is not really democracy for all, but the dictate of monopoly. What really is needed is a workers state. The bosses state serves the narrow minority of elite richies, while the naicent workers state claims the value added first and foremost for the workers. The world is indeed upside down. Unity is strength.
