Photo Essay of Hikoi Against Super city
Hey heres a bit of a photo essay of todays march against the super city.
I and a couple of friends started the day at Orakei Marae where around 200 people gathered at 8.30am. By 9 we set off and began the long walk into town along the way we picked up another 1 - 200 people. The march was really well organised with marshalls making sure no one wandered into traffic and that everything was orderly. There was a wide cross section of people on the march in from kids taking the day off school right through the age range. I was a bit suprised at the lack of Pakeha supporters on the march and it really reminded me of the responsibility we have to make sure our communitys get out there to support Maori.
At eleven or so the four groups coming from different corners of Auckland city converged at the bottom of queen st. It was an electrifying scene as several haka were performed. After making sure everyone had time to arrive and picking up a whole lot more people the march began its way up queen st. Whilst numbers are hard to guess I would say that at least 10,000 people were on queen st probably more. Irregardless of size it was one of the most powerful marches I have ever been on.
Despite the rain peoples spirits were high and after speeches music was played at the rally.

As a Pakeha, well done that was a magnificent turnout and will certainly give some of those smug capitalist suits pause for thought.

While I do not agree with Maori specific seats, you have raised a very important couple of points about only the rich being able to gain seats and; the ability to more easily privatise public assets.
There should be caps on election spending limited to less than $50,000 per candidate. This would certainly make sure the candidates were working hard for what they are after and that the people working with them (the volunteers) truly believed in their candidate also.

Some of us don't care what you have to say cos you killed it with your first line. Any pakeha who thinks they know what's best for Maori needs to go away and think about what they are saying. You are dillusional if you think you know what's best for us! The trouble with the colonial mindset in this country is that 'you people' believe you're qualified to comment on issues you are not ie. Kaupapa Maori. You suggest a few things but you've said nothing of real value and This Maori won't pay attention to anything you've got to say when you start out the way you have! How can you expect our support when you don't support us? Get real!

Do you really think your rant is worth replying to?

Shall we have seats for footballers as well, because I am pretty sure non-footballers can not possibly understand the needs of that group either?

I'm a Pakeha, but I agree. The problem with this kind of democracy is that the candidate with the most votes is always going to be from the majority culture or support the values of that culture, and unless thats you, you don't have a chance of representation.

It’s good enough for Fiji to take back there home it's good enough for kiwis .
People in high places are paying them selves’ to much.
People cannot afford high rates, food is to highly priced
The poor are getting poorer
We are drowning in red tape .
This is our home dam it.
It’s been pillaged and plundered
So the privileged few can indulge at our expense
How come some prick get’s 540,000 a year to organise the councils when the job could be by some fellow on the rock and roll.
Sewage water power road’s transport water. Its all about money and who gets it.
I suggest we peacefully storm the council buildings and trow them all out . this not an a act of terrorism this is an act of piece .
We ow the future of Aotearoa to the next generation.
How dose this prick get paid 540,000 a year for being so unimportant.
Does he have health certificate?
