Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

in

The year has started comparatively well for chickens across Aotearoa, with two ALF raids in South Auckland and a fire burning down a death factory in Christchurch.

First, an ALF raid on a Tegel Factory Broiler Farm took place, with ALF activists documenting the horrific conditions inside the sheds.

"We liberated five chickens, we also removed ten dead birds and delivered them to one of the people directly responsible for their suffering and deaths, Tegel Director, Mr Ronald Duje Vela"

January 4th saw a Tegel processing plant burn down in Christchurch, and animal rights activists celebrated the economic damage and disruption caused to Tegel. The fire is currently thought to have been accidental.

Lastly, the 12th of January saw 25 more chickens liberated from another South Auckland factory farm.

"We are extremely pleased about this liberation as 25 hens will now lead happy, healthy lives outdoors in natural conditions. They will be able to walk, enjoy the sun and socialize with each other instead of being cramped together in tiny cages in a dark shed."

"We especially applaud and encourage such courageous actions as this one, as the government have proven they are incapable of acting to end the suffering. By failing to abolish battery farming, the government has recklessly neglected these animals and condemned them to a lifetime of distress and suffering"

Yay. Please keep freeing animals, please don't stop.

Thank you for making my day that little bit better with this happy news. x m

Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

Help! Help! HELP! They are killing us! ALF only rescued a very small number of our chicken chums while leaving the rest of us in squalor. Here they come to torture us some more before we finely die from intense pain. Well anyone save us?!

Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

Hang on! Here we come! ALF is just firing up the batmobile now. Atomic batteries to power, turbines to speed and away we go! Then it's: whack, POW, thwack, thump and wallop. Then we will save the day from the terribly wicked and perverted battery hen farmers.

Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

It's great to see that ALF and the AAA are working hard to save our animal friends and really into animal rights. It's sad though to see SAFE dragging the chain. Take for example what is happing where SAFE has its national office, Christchurch. There the regional council, Ecan, is wanting to kill rabbits by shooting and poison. See www.ecan.govt.nz for proof. While there is nothing about it on the SAFE internet site. See www.safe.org.nz for proof. On SAFE's internet site we are hit with them wanting to sell you calendars but no sight of them doing anything about the suggested Canterbury rabbit killings. Even doing a keyword search on it there is nothing about the Ecan shooting program. So much for SAFE being New Zealand's most proactive animal advocacy organisation.

Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

For more details about Ecan's policy go to http://www.ecan.govt.nz/Plans+and+Reports/pestAndWeeds/RPMS+2005.htm and have a read.

Re: Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

Contacting ECAN and SAFE about this will be more productive than bitching about it here.

Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

I suggest for people to email Ecan about this and maybe make a submission. And email Safe, so they can do a submission about this, too.

Re: Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

I'll be doing this.

Re: Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

What a good idea. I too will be doing all of the above suggestions.

Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

It does appear that Safe has again been caught napping.

Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

I though a part of SAFE’s role, as NZ's most proactive animal advocacy organization, is lobbying government, including local and regional ones, on behalf of all animals. I’m sure this includes bunnies? Otherwise, it’s not the voice of all animals. I’ve contacted ECAN to find out how to make a submission about the purposed bunny slayings, so I’ll be making one.

Re: Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

I as well thought that about Safe. Looks like we were wrong. Then what is Safe for?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

save animals from exploitation = double think + news speak + thought police + big brother + room 101 + ...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

Safe is into the business of putting product placements into popular New Zealand movies like Snakeskin and In My Father’s Den. What this has to do with animal advocacy/rights/welfare nobody knows. It certainly didn’t add anything to the films.

Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

It is a real concern that there hasn’t been a squeak from Safe about this. On the front page of their web site it boasts that they are New Zealand's most proactive animal advocacy organisation and the voice of all animals but here they are clearly being remiss of their duties towards the rabbits and other animals.

Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

Isn't it funny that Ecan changed their front page of their internet site after a number of people contacted them about the purposed rabbit kill? It has changed from showing the rabbit killings to the Timaru buses. Lets hope it is a sign in a change in policy towards killing rabbits but I doubt it.

Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

Lets hope SAFE comes down from their Ivory Tower, in Armagh Street, Christchurch, to be more proactive about this in the streets of where it has its national office. Otherwise, SAFE is remissive of its duties towards our animal friends.

Re: Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

I don't think Safe will do anything about this because they might decide this will be a bad business decision to do. Most people see rabbits, possiums and the like as pests that need to be wiped out. If Safe does stand against this they risk upsetting mainstream society from which they get their main source of income from, in the form of donations and subscriptions.

Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

It's great to see that ECAN pulled down the suggested bunny shooting information. Lets hope they get a real blasting from the people that are passionate about animals in the form of emails and submissions instead of the country side being blasted by the nuts trying to shoot the bunnies.

Re: Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

More positive action from the AR movement.

Good shit!

Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

Two liberations already this year. That's great! I'm sure more are on the way.

Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

It would be great to see more positive action of this nature done by ALF and co!

Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

Arson is a bit drastic .. the thing that really makes them squawk is to hit them really hard .. a savage drop kick to the bank balance.

I for one will never buy a Tegal chicken again and neither will I patronize any eateries that uses any of Tegel products ..

Maybe organizing a boycott would be more effective than risking a few years in the slammer.

Re: Animal Liberationists active early in 2007

ECAN is at it again and this time wanting to kill possums! Check www.ecan.govt.nz for proof. Yet again SAFE stands by and does NOTHING?!
