Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
A diverse crowd of people from various tangata whenua iwi, and tau iwi, began gathering outside parliament ground at 10am this morning, and swelled to around 500 by midday, when the Tuhoe hikoi arrived to a boisterous welcome. Two groups joined into one for a march down Lambton Quay, stopping to cry 'shame' at various government targets. A number of Tuhoe and others, including Te Kupu from Upper Hutt Posse, addressed the crowd at a brief rally at Midland Park.
The march then returned to parliament grounds where MPs from the Maori and Green Parties spoke against the Terrorism Suppression Act (TSA) and in support of the marchers demands for justice, and two of Labour's Maori MPs were shouted down by demands to know which way they voted on the TSA ammendments recently passed in parliament. The march continued up Molesworth St to National Police Headquarters, where a line of police were confronted with a powerful haka expressing the anger of the Tuhoe nation at police behaviour in the dawn raids of October, and subsequent actions. Many of the Tuhoe and supporters, both Maori and paheka, carried on to a powhiri and hakari at Pipitea Marae.

They are a credit to all those on benifits-their parents must be real proud of them
As we all work, trying to survive day to day- they losers are off on a tiki tour and giving the pigs the finger- round them up and put them to work, the devil makes use of idle hands and all

They're a real credit to those in jobs... thanks for being there when I was unable to leave my office, protestors

Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
awesome. You value the worth of someones involvement by the amount of money they make for themselves and for their boss. a real asset to our community you are.
I for one am happy that whilst I was unable to go, someone is sticking up for my opinion, which is to frankly stick the finger up at the cops.
Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
Wow, is that the best you can do with your comments? Carry on like the sheep you are...
Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
Yeah don't fight against injustice, just bury that head in the sand and take it in the ass from the state like the previous commentor obviously does.
Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
Since when did fighting against injustice include sleeping in cos your on the dole while growing a few plants out back.
It's good to know that winz granted them a emergency needs grant so they could make this trip.
Re: Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
How naive we enjoy the dole by sheer compulsion as they stole our lands, raped and murdered our ancestors. so they us a little bit more than the DOLE! Obviously you are not in control of your self dictated like a robot you then think that is how you must behave and justify your colonised actions by making dumb and dumber statements. Get informed and then you wont feel like an alient. Get your mana motuhake and you will feel empowered like the rest of us!
Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
The only person with their head up their arse is you, what social injustic have you suffered?
Re: Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
My be if the marchers woke up before midday got off their arse, took regular showers, stopped using their dole to buy tinnies and cases of double brown and got themselves a honest job they wouldn't be suffering from 'social injustice'.
I know Maori who are nothing like this rabble - who hold down jobs and proudly support their families without looking for a handout.
So what excuse have these hikoi marcher got to avoid doing the same?
Oh thats right they suffer from 'social injustice'
Re: Re: Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
You silly person. FYI most of those who headed off on the hikoi actually do have jobs. Some took annual leave (because the hikoi was important to them) and some took unpaid leave ... for the same reason. But some also don't have jobs because they have homes they don't want to leave after the Labour Party eliminated the NZ Forest Service and shut down the forestry jobs.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
Really? They looked like a bunch of unemployed dole bludgers to me and the rest of NZ. And to think we're actually financially supporting these people, it makes me sick.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
You're probably supporting the terrorist Labour government, and that makes me sick!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
What do know, that we are dole bluggers. i took time off without pay to tautoko my people for what was wrongfully done to them and there children, how would you like to be woken up 4am with the infrared light shinning on your father and mothers and siblings bodies by a masked person dressed in black dressed like a Ninja with a machine gun type of machine. you needed to experient that and then your know the meaning of our hikoi to parliment.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
I know maori who are nothing like this rabble....
Yeah, I know Maori who are like that too. They're just trying to be like some Pakeha....OOhhh.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
Holding down jobs and feeding their kids without asking for a handout - the opposite of those participating in the hikoi march from what I saw
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
Holding down jobs, bringing up kids and asking for no handouts plus just wanting to be Maori, is that allowed?
Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
anybody on indymedia got any thoughts on the firearms charges? that ideologically off limits?
Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
It's well known that most of the protestors - perhaps 12 out of 17 - never actually touched a firearm and are on a charge of being in the same room as someone who *was* holding a firearm. "Collective possession", my arse.

Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
The taxes from our so called work pay for your benefit lifestyle. You people are like ungrateful children. I'm glad the police showed you 'activists' what happens when you step out of line.
Re: Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
gtfo troll.
Re: Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
Are you for real? Or you're just stirring? Not all 'activists' are beneficiaries. And what's more, the wealth of this country is historically based on stolen Maori land. Yes, Maori sold land but not all of it. And they certainly never ever sold the Foreshore and Seabed. Helen baby may call the 2004 Hikoi march organisers 'haters and wreckers' - 20 000 Maori and supporters made an effort to march. I think Helen, like you, hates anyone who doesn't want to toe the (labour) party line.

Question??? Why did they let National Party John Keys go to Tuhoi,(with security precaution being put in place) if they suppected that his safety was in jeopardy.
Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
Awesome - way to go Tuhoe.
Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
How come SIS & the police didn't see National Party John Keys go into the Ururewas to meet Tame,(being that all this $8 million surveilance equipment)didn't or couldn't detect this MP and party members presence in the Ururewas in August and knowing that their were Threats made on Mr Keys Safety????????????
Bite me someone, what the F...is going on
John Keys must of wanted a feed of smoked Eels, wild pork, wild duck and a taste of true Hangi,(Good on you) John. Bet they looked after you and opened their wairua to you.Now what do have to say about this Mr Keys. Seen the video.
Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
Im surprised the police bothered to conduct the raids. I doubt those arrested could ever form an effective militia, they couldn't even organise a protest to arrive at parliament before the act is passed! Or couldn't see the police filming their training camps mere metres away. Hardly a crack team of commandos. But really how can you read Monday's Dompost and still say they are harmless and non-violent? The police had to do something, even though they have got better things to do than babysit a bunch of protesters dressed in army surplus and balaclavas trying to look tough. You are welcome to protest, but if you want the police to leave you alone, stop collecting guns talking about killing people, starting wars and dying for your cause. Minto's argument that they were baiting the police by talking provocatively is pretty weak, why attract the police deliberately?

I think Lockett has foisted himself of Maori, he is a rebel looking for a cause, part of "rent a mob” No doubt, when what constitutes Maori is burning, when all they have left is ashes- he will find something else to do.
In his own culture he is rejected, we don’t like him, we think he is lazy and insolent- I will be he can not name his own people

Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
They could have cut off their dole and just waited for them to come into the nearest winz office to complain before arresting them there without having this big pr issue.
Re: Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
Pssst...your ignorance or lame attempt to provoke is showing. You really don't give a damn about the issues relating to the Tuhoe hikoi OR the people you dismiss as being on the dole. The Treaty of Waitangi guaranteed Maori rights and privileges of British subjects - but they weren't even paid the same amounts - eg Old Age pension - at the beginning. And Maori returning soldiers weren't entitled to the same benefits (eg opportunity to build homes on their papakainga) as Pakeha soldiers either. So, 60 or so years on, the dole ain't nothing to be thankful for and is a non-starter as far as this debate goes. I suppose it's beyond you to think of a decent, reasoned argument?
Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
The Tuhoe people deserve an apology from the government and the police due to how they were treated during the raids. I believe that the people that participated in the hikoi deserve to be heard and shame on Helen Clarke for not meeting them. Many of us are concerned that the T.S.A. law breaches our human rights and we all have the right to be heard. To turn this forum into a petty slinging match about who is or isn't on a benefit really misses the point. It could be you next....or your children.
Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
"The Tuhoe people deserve an apology from the government and the police due to how they were treated during the raids."
LOL :)
Yeah yeah, so do the black power and mongrel mob. No sale,
It is a race of people who over the last 20 years have systematically terrorised the rest of the population- a nation of rapists, thieves and thugs- stand over merchants. They have bully mentality and like all bullies when they get a slap they cry foul – marching down to wellington and crying, because they got roughed up -they have no shame- they disgust me

Oh and a warning, don't trust members of the KLMC, they are pass on information to the police!

Cops, SIS create terror panic over FOUR GUNSt
http://unityaotearoa.blogspot.com/2007/11/cops-sis-create-terror-panic-o...
Contrary to panicky rumour, the police found no AK-47s, no molotov cocktails and no napalm bombs at Ruatoki. All they found were four rifles, a few rounds of ammunition and a lot of tough talk. Your average National or ACT member living in a rural area probably has more than that in their shed.
It's shown once again that the Terror Raids were nothing to do with fighting an actual threat to life, limb or property. This is all about criminalising and anathematising Maori sovereignty, ecologist and anarchist activism. The police, SIS, and the right-wing blogosphere know that it's not illegal to talk tough and play soldier - but they want to make it so, at least for people whose political views they don't like. When former leaders of neo-Nazi organisations do it, though, it's apparently okay - unless Kyle Chapman's "Survive Club" is next to be raided by battalions of ninjas.

Seen that video a few weeks back( the point of one questioned) ask about the (training of weapons)in the most proficient manner, can be interpretated as to the proper way of handling firearms in a safe and responsible manner for the ideals of hunting eg(who doesn't teach & train)people the ideals of how to operate firearms to the most preficient understanding of how to do so [safely] Gun-clubs,Sports-clubs,Hunters all do.Its better to know the requirements of all safety aspect of how to maintain & operate a Firearm in a appropiate manner.Better then having someone play with something they do not know anything about. This is my understand of how i feel about Firearms & on this Video topic. If you don't teach & train, (you put everyone at risk)
Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Deusche Bank
How come both main political parties, led by Peters [who is Foreign Minister and strutting big in the US], plus the cops, SIS [well they would given the chance] and now the media, are conspiring [don't need any theory!] to 'criminalise' Maori and other activists?
Racist yeah of course? Police power, yeah.
But thats background stuff. Racism has been here or nearly two hundred years, police raids have been here nearly as long.
So what motivates this campaign/operation is something much more to do with money, and in particular, Mr Imperialist moneybags.
All you have to do is ask what were Tuhoe activists doing over the last couple of years?
Getting their message out that the Tribunal settlement better redress the past wrongs.
What actually is it about? - the ownership of the Kaingaroa and the investments of US/EU multinationals in profiting from this resource.
So the conversation probably goes something like this:
Rayonier which is US forestry giant, along with Deusche Bank -probably its US branch - which took over CHH holdings in this area and want the trees out, and say to Winston "hey what's with the indigenous people down there?"
Winston say's "There are no indigenous people there, in fact theyre back in Taiwan".
"No I mean the ones shooting the flag and blocking the road and stopping our milling"?
"Oh. That's just a film set for the 'Tuhoe Nation' the sequel to 'Utu' did you see it?"
"Utu? is it on Youtube?"
"Not yet, we need to provide the police raid and court scenes to show how we kiwis deal with the lead actor Tame Iti. We figure that if the film company pays for it we can try out our new terror legislation on the cheap."
"No worries about that Winston, we can supply some Blackwater guys down there anytime, these guys are for real they live to kill and vice versa".
"No, no, its under control, the production is just about finished, the Solicitor General and PM even agreed to appear in the film, so its a wrap up".
"OK, just as long as we get the logs out, we are facing a tough time here with the bank losing a couple of billion on bad debts in the housing market. We need to screw a lot more money our of this operation - 8 billion in fact. We don't need some indigenous upstart occupying our investment."
Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Deusche Bank
Yep:we know all that, the thing is (what have we got out of all this)Sweet bugger-all.As you say its about$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ which ever way is possible and at the expence of others.A lot of this has been created by a select few of our own people too and their wants to be rich\greedy by the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$(for their own makings)

Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
For all the red-neck trolls:
Helen Clark has discussed matters sub judice in the newspapers. How would a former university Professor do this, as the current PM, within 3 days of the arrests, if she didn't already know that the Police had F*cked up, and not a single charge had sufficient evidence to be convicted?
Unlicensed guns inthe hill country? My Dad and my uncles harldly ever had a current licence in the 70's, scratch any bunch of the Young Farmers' clubs and you'll find someone shooting with grandad's old shotgun, to get the deer off the back of the property outside the hunting season, just 'cos they can, and there's bugger-all people living out there who would complain at more sheep-country-vermin being exterminated!
Get a grip on reality. This was a Police self-justifiction excercise ($8.7 MILLION????), which back-fired because they didn't do a reality check. Tell their mothers to take them home and spank them.... and teach them some respect for the women and children who have been unneccessarily harrassed during this whole shameful episode. Sack Jon White.
As for trial by media - well, Fairfax have hit a new low of sensationalism and racism this time. Un-f*ing-believable. I want to know why they think they're invincible to libel suits....
Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament

Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
We need to have Final Solution towards the people who spoke against Terrorism Suppression Act. They need to be rounded up and sent to Gas Chambers.
Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
We don't want & need this Crap legislation implied into our Culture in Aotearoa,(full-stop)where by we are being unjustly vindictively labelled.
Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
Was it really $8.7Million?
Broad should know he's finished now.
Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
They had illegal firearms, they participated in armed training camps where they practiced extreme violence, they were caught on phone taps plotting and planing to kill people. The Police arrested them.
Why are we supporting them?
Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
'unlicensed' is not the same as 'illegal'
Lack of intelligent analysis of the tapes is the problem, not some gung-ho fantasy brewed up in Langley, Virginia and fed to gullible NZPC's sent on a training junket!
'we' is ungrammatical in your sentence context; you are not supporting anybody, and 'we', the supporters, are not using your money to do so...
'we', the taxpayers, however, have paid NZ$8.7 million to see a complete Police operations cock-up of monumental proportions, and a months' worth of racist offense shown to Ngai Tuhoe, and every other iwi with which they have cordial relations, including Tau Iwi.
Sack Jon White... and his entire Anti-Terrorist Unit. Munters!
Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
We're supporting them because *they haven't done anything against the law*, and so the cops were not entitled to rough them up.
No-one was "plotting to kill people". If they had been, they'd be charged with conspiracy to commit murder. The cops know that they don't have anything, which is why they haven't been charged with anything more significant than "being in the same room as a non-approved gun".
Come out and admit it, right-wing trolls - you think that it should be illegal for Maori or left-wing people to talk tough and play soldier. Either that, or you think the cops should be allowed to rough people up for doing something that's not illegal. Either way, you're destroying democracy.
Re: Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
"Why are we supporting them?"
Good call, why?
Standing back and watching/supporting, is no better than those germans who stood around and watched the Nazi's haul off their neighbours
There is no Mana in being an activist
Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
What a load of crap, I'm fed up with listening to all this crap about how this person hasnt done anything and this person is a terrorist or isnt a terrorist. I'm one of the first to say I dont trust the cops, but let the courts decide.
TBH Who cares, While the rest of NZ gets on with life, you idoits are still moaning. Grow up, as for the media move on and find something else to report, because we are sick of hearing about it.

Tena koutou,
I was on the hikoi, Why? because it was my whanau who were arrested and falsely accussed by the Police, Public and this Govt. To all those idiots who have written comments about dole bluggers let me get it straight I work and so do many others that were on the hikoi. And to be blunt about things I probably earn more money than you do. And the boy doing the fingers to cops, thats my nephew you twits who still attends school... So to all those idiots out there who enjoy pointing the finger there WILL come a time in your life when you will need us to support whatever your kaupapa is against the government. And when that happens I hope you remember what comments you have made. For those who enjoy the crap those on the news love filling your heads with, here's something they haven't told you - a majority of those Tuhoe arrested are alcohol and drug free, who have been working with our rangatahi for years. It doesn't matter to me how you people see things, cause like I said your time will come, and will see how well you hold up under scrutiny.

Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
Hi all, Have read everyones views and would like to share with you mine. As a maori I think we need to make a change, stop trying to fight the law cause for years we have been and it has'nt worked, instead do something better with time and go to school get a education and succeed in life. Maori have the ability to positively affect the future of our people, From birth we are dealt bad cards, We are more likely to get diabetes, More likely to commit suicide, more likely to be poorer, More likely to go to jail and the list goes on. That’s why it’s not a matter of - If we will succeed, We have too. Make a change is all i say, Succeeding is the key!

Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
The Maori are a race of tribes who dont get along. They are forever controlled by their elders who are given the title of the leaders. This is how I see a Maori elder.. A young fool and now an old fool. No wonder the the dopey young are so delusional. Its trendy to be Maori. Fuck know why??? Being a little Maori myself... I dont pretend to one.. why .. cos I have never been treated like one. There are whites who lay claim to Maori heritage, but because they dont look Black can never feel the discrimination that is associated with looking that way. First impressions is how we all catorgorise the stranger coming into our group!!!
Re: Tuhoe Hikoi Arrives at Parliament
Those who were involved in the hikoi should be proud to take a stand. i am Pakeha and until recently i have been blind to the incredible injustices that Maori face daily. I position myself as Pakeha rather than as a "kiwi" or "new zealander" to recognise maori as tangata whenua. i hope that i may be able to also stand up and say "this is wrong".
