3 arrests in Otautahi/Christchurch at Fossil Fools Day protest - everybody out!

The ride was followed by 8+ police officers in 3 police cars and 1 pady wagon after the 3 arrests, total over kill for a group of peaceful bike riders!

Update: 6:51pm - 3 confirmed arrests, possibly a 4th. According to people who were there, the Police got "very violent" and "vicious".

7.39pm - It sound like 5 or maybe 6 arrests. Apparently they will be released in 3 hours. We have no idea what the charges are.

7.56pm - Around 10 people are outside the Christchurch central police station waiting for activists' release. Go down and support them!

8.13pm - It could be anything between 4 and 5 hours before they are released from when they arrived at the police station (at around 6.30pm). We are still not sure how many people were arrested. Apparently 3 cop cars and one paddy wagon were there when the arrests happened.

8.47pm - One person has been released and is charged with disorderly behavior and will appear in court on Friday. One more person is due to be released shortly. A third has been charged with escaping custody and possibly more charges and will be held overnight, appearing in court tomorrow! They all have non-association orders.

9.28pm - A second person is released and charged with disorderly behavior appearing in court on Tuesday.

Bio-fuel is the next big money maker for big business. The state and corporate security guards (pigs) are charged with the task making sure the transition goes smoothly from one drying up fossil fuel to the next form of finitely available fuel group....bio-fuels. So they will reroute all resources to any protest dissentive against fossil fuels even at the risk of stretching their security guard resources to make sure your voices are never heard.

Yes many of us do. Look at the 1st part of the new mall. It is sickning what they are doing. Look at the trees. Most are about to go right through to the bridge of rememberance. The city is being cleaned out of poor and young people and I guess it is time for people to decide do we sit and watch the City council and the police free rein or do we act.

I gues it is your call. The city council has made it very clear. They want the city for tourist and those who can afford to shop at the shops in the city. Kinda strange when u consider the bus exchange is jus there bringing all us bad types right to where they dont want us to be. Guess they dont think too well. No surprise to many.

Food Not Bombs is in the Mall every Friday with free food and conversation. Are they the next to be attacked by the police? Those involved would say yes.

City Mall Re-vitalisation.

I was at the Urban Design Forum last Tuesday.
The guest speaker Marilyn Higgins - School of Architecture & Planning Auckland Uni said much the same thing.

Cities should be built for the locals. The thing is Tourist really want to see you - Kiwis.

CCC followed up with their revitalisation plan, a walk way to Lancaster Park that will be up in time for the Rugby World Cup.

CCC are building for tourists.

It is a bit odd - the removal of a land scape that is used and valued.
