ANZCCART Protests Next Weekend
Animal Rights activists will be descending on Auckland to protest against a conference promoting animal experimentation. ANZCCART (the Australian and New Zealand Council for the Care of Animals in Research and Teaching) is the main pro-vivisection lobby group in Australasia. This year their annual conference will be held in Auckland from Sunday June 29th to Tuesday July 1st at the Ellerslie Events Centre, 100 Ascot Avenue, Greenlane, Auckland.
Over 300,000 animals are used in vivisection each year in New Zealand. Organisations including the National Anti Vivisection Campaign (NAVC), Animal Rights Legal Advocacy Network (ARLAN), Save the Beagles Campaign and the Auckland Animal Rights Collective (AARC) are coming together to organise actions and events to highlight the plight of these animals used and abused in the name of science. There will be protests, concerts, film showings and public meetings.

URGENT UPDATE: Vivisection conference cancelled in Auckland, but events still going ahead and protests will be happening at new locations!
The ANZCCART conference that was due to take place this weekend has been abruptly cancelled after the Ellerslie Event Centre refused to host the event. In a statement the Ellerslie Event Centre said they were unaware of the true nature of the conference but once they discovered it was an animal experimentation conference they sent out the following statement:
'The Ellerslie Event Centre has advised that the ANZCCART event from Sunday June 30 until Tuesday 1st July will no longer be taking place at the Event Centre'.

The Rally will no longer take place at the Ellerslie Event Centre. The new Rally site will also be announced at the public meeting & short film screening at the Grey Lynn Community Centre (7pm, Saturday, 28th June).

Protest details for Monday 30th June and Tuesday 1st: We will be meeting at 100 Ascot Ave on Monday 7am and Tuesday 12 midday and will be going from there to protest outside other animal testing organizations.
