Vivisection profits from torture! Protests continue all over Auckland
Over the last few days Auckland's Waipuna Hotel has been host to the Australian and New Zealand Council for the Care of Animals in Research and Teaching (ANZCCART) conference. This is a get together for those involved in animal testing. The conference was originally meant to be held at the Ellerslie Convention Centre but management cancelled the event.
Yesterday around 70 people rallied against the conference outside the Waipuna Hotel. There were speeches about the cruel nature of animal testing and lots of noise making. [More]
At 7:15am this morning another noisy demo was held outside the conference. Demonstrators also visited companies and institutions involved in vivisection around the Auckland region, such as Unilever, NIWA, the Auckland University Medical School and Novartis. [Report and Photos]
We will be back at Waipuna Conference Centre and Hotel, 58 Waipuna Road Mt Wellington, tonight at 6:45pm to disrupt the ANZCCART dinner. See you there!

You people want to bring us back to the bad old days of coal torches and flax pants. Think about the economy for a change. It's time to get real.

Please feel free to notify the DHB that when you or a close family member is seriously ill, that you will decline any treatment that has ever been tested on animals.

"Think about the economy for a change. It's time to get real."
If we think hard enough, we might just get capitalism to work, and avoid another of its regular collapses.
Thompson and Clark photographer
One of the provision people spent a lot of the weekend taking photos of people in the protests and videoing the protests. This man was working very closely with the police and was given full access to the area the police were using as their command center. A police officer described them as "consultants". Any information and photos this guy was getting will be fed back to Thompson and Clark.
The older guy in the bottom photo turned up on the last day of protests and stod about 50m away, every time I tried to get photos he sprinted away. This photo is from around two years ago.

It is a common misconception that because medicines have been tested on animals, that therefore they must be tested on animals. But this does not follow logically. If we used this argument, then nobody from the Southern United States who is opposed to slavery would drive on the road, because many of them would have been built by slaves. Closer to home, much of New Zealand's economy is based on confiscation of Maori land; the economy of my country (the UK) is based on exploitation from its former colonies. We will probably find the economy of all so-called "developed" countries is based on similar exploitative practices. Does that mean we should refuse any state help, including education. Far bettr that we use the education and the priviledged position this gives us to redress past wrongs, and this must include vivisection, which is not only ethically repugnant but scientific fraud.

Eight people arrested yesterday!
'Illegally in a yard' charges and one ridiculous 'assault' charge.
Folks having to stay in Auckland while court dates are sorted... will keep you posted.

Great job done; keep it up!
Re: Vivisection profits from torture! Protests continue all over
Looks like they have increased the charges. Now the activists are being charged for being unlawfully in an enclosed premise AND for trying to get our of the enclosed premise...
Re: Vivisection profits from torture! Protests continue all over
Who is posting that and where are you getting you're info from?
Re: Vivisection profits from torture! Protests continue all over
I was one of the arrested and I found out about the added charge at my plea hearing on Friday morning.

So you'd condemn animal experimentation, but still happily use the fruits of those experiments?
Since the dawn of history humans have eaten meat, worn leather and made little fish hooks from bones. So whats the problem then with using animals to test drugs???
