Anarchists in solidarity
Anarchists took their solidarity messages to Australian and Chilean embassies in Wellington today.
About a dozen anarchists gathered outside of the Australian embassy at mid-day today in solidarity with Sina Brown-Davis, an activist facing charges in Melbourne magistrates court this week in relation to the G20 protests in Australian in 2006.
The people at the picket were greeted with the usual overkill of cops, some diplomatic protection squad and the paddy wagon. As is their usual practice, they took photographs of everyone including some camera people working.
The G20 solidarity statement was read out and chants of ‘Free Sina NOW!’ were punctuated with drum rolls and sirens (ours, not theirs). While the ambassador failed to front up to the meeting, we think the embassy staff certainly got the message.
After the action at the Australian embassy, we moved over to the Chilean embassy to offer our solidarity with arrested anarchist Cristian Cancino who is being held on terrorism charges. Several embassy staff members came out to discuss the situation with us. They knew nothing of the case, but said that they would take our message to the ambassador (who apparently was out). We ate the lovely apples that were literally falling from the tree at the embassy, and left our messages in the trees…
We send our unconditional solidarity to these comrades facing prosecution by the state. Stand strong friends, we’ve got your back.
