"Stop the Genocide!" - Protests Across Aotearoa

stop the genocide.jpg
There have been demonstrations across Aotearoa over the last week in solidarity with Aboriginal Australias resistance to John Howard's invasion of their communities and thinly veiled land grab.

Melbourne: Several hundred people marched in Melbourne where Robbie Thorpe told the rally, "It's the only bit of land the commonwealth government hasn't got access to and there are minerals like uranium there". [ Report+Photos | Video ]

Auckland: Around a hundred or more people marched from Britomart to the Australian Consulate where a rally was held and speeches were made against capitalism and colonialism in the Pacific. [ Video | Photos ]

Wellington: Two demonstrations, one on Friday and one on Saturday, rocked the capital, sending the message far and wide that Howard isn't wanted here. [ Photos: 1, 2 | Video ]

Dunedin: A "Tent Embassy of Solidarity" was erected in the Octagon where visitors could write and email messages of protest to the Australian High Commisioner and New Zealand Prime Minister. [ Report ]

Voted the best Australian joke of 2006?!

A bloke's wife goes missing while diving off the West Australian
coast. He reports the event, searches fruitlessly and spends a terrible
night wondering what could have happened to her.

Next morning there's a knock at the door and he is confronted by a
couple of policemen, the old Sarge and a younger Constable.

The Sarge says, "Mate, we have some news for you, unfortunately some
really bad news, but, some good news, and maybe some more good news."

"Well," says the bloke, "I guess I'd better have the bad news
first?"

The Sarge says, "I'm really sorry mate, but your wife is dead.
Young Bill here found her lying at about five fathoms in a little cleft
in the reef. He got a line around her and we pulled her up, but she was
dead."

The bloke is naturally pretty distressed to hear of this and has a
bit of a turn. But after a few minutes he pulls himself together and
asks,
"what's the good news.......??

The Sarge says, "Well when we got your wife up there were quite a
few really good sized crays and a swag of nice crabs attached to her, so
we've brought you your share."

He hands the bloke a sugar bag with a couple of nice crays and four
or five crabs in it.

"Geez thanks. They're bloody beauties. I guess it's an ill wind
and all that... So what's the other possible good news?"

"Well," the Sarge says, "if you fancy a quick trip, me and young
Bill here get off duty at around 11 o'clock and we're gonna shoot over
there and pull her up again.....!"

Union?

Kia ora whanau,

Nau mai, haere mai & welcome to the first IA: ImagineNative Action
panui - we assume yall know who we are and what we're about, but if
not just drop us an email and we'll mihi to that!

Attached is the first of our public awareness leaflets (arohamai for
the spelling mistakes, we did our best but it was 4am!!) regarding
the colonial invasion of Aboriginal land, communities and children in
the north of Occupied Australia. Feel free to forward to friends,
whanau, colleagues and/or print them off and flood yo local pub,
club, cafe, supermarket and MPs office with them! Chur.

This Saturday the All Blacks are playing Australia at Eden Park in
Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland), kick off 7.30 pm. The IA whanau believes
the moral and political background to Aotearoa's national rugby team
playing Australia now is similar to the All Blacks playing South
Africa in the 1960-90s. Colonial Australia has a history of
brutalizing and attempting cultural and ethnic genocide on the 1st
nations of the land, a history often more brutal and repugnant than
that of Apartheid.

However, rather than advocating the disruption of the rugby match (at
this stage), IA wants to use this, and future sporting events, as a
platform to raise awareness over the invasion of Aboriginal
communities and the attempts to alienate the people from their land
for the purposes of economic ( i.e. mining) exploitation.

This is the important bit:
To this end we are attempting to co-ordinate (with no funds and few
peoples!!) an action at All Blacks vs. Australia on Saturday. This
will involve handing out placards and banners to the crowd as they
enter Eden Park and asking that they wave them about as much as
possible. There will also be some other activities that we'll korero
on during the session.

The placards will be designed and painted at a session to be held on
Friday July 20th at 43 Warwick Ave, Westmere from 6pm. We may follow
this up with a second session the following morning or afternoon if
people are keen and there is enough mahi to do.

We will provide some kai, and as much placard/painting, stencilling
materials as possible, but any donations of kai, white, black, red,
yellow paint and of cardboard or other soft materials would be
choice! Also if any of you have placards and banners from either of
the first 2 rallies please feel free to bring them too.

If you got any questions or want to korero at all then email us at
indigenous.solidarity (at) gmail.com or call/text our kaikorero Te
Kanikani Tangata Hara on 0211551154.

Aroha n Blessings
Te Whanau o ImagineNative Action

Support indigenous struggles for sovereignty, dignity and
self-determination on Turtle Island ---- Oppose CN Rail's racism and
colonialism ---- Protest Bush, Harper, Calderon and the "Security and
Prosperity Partnership" (SPP)---TUESDAY,
AUGUST 14th, NOON --- Picket and Demonstration --- Montreal Central
Train Station --- metro Bonaventure (enter via the metro, or via the
street at 895 de la Gauchetière West, between University and
Mansfield) ---- Meet at the large departures/arrivals sign in the main
lobby of the train station. Bring your banners, placards, flags and
other symbols of dissent. ---- We demand that CN
Rail drop their racist lawsuits against Mohawk activists at
Tyendinaga; ---- We
stand in support and solidarity with indigenous struggles for
sovereignty and
self-determination all over Turtle Island; ---- We denounce CN Rail's
role in
the corporate North American Competitiveness Council and the Security and
Prosperity Partnership (SPP).

"When justice fails, block the rails!"

CN Rail is a multi-billion dollar company, headquartered in Montreal, whose tracks and installations occupy native lands from ocean-to-ocean.

CN Rail is currently pursuing multi-million dollar lawsuits against Mohawk activists from the community of Tyendinaga who are actively
involved in the defense of their land.

The Mohawks of Tyendinaga are demanding the return of the Culberston Tract, which was stolen from them in 1832. Recently a portion of the land was reclaimed, with the Tyendinaga community demanding that the Ontario government revoke the license legitimizing a private quarry operation that is literally removing land from the Culberston Tract.
For more info, consult:

ocap.ca/firstnations/tyendinaga/culbertson

CN is threatening more lawsuits against other indigenous communities and activists who block CN rail lines.

CN Rail and their executives are targeting indigenous community organizers who have effectively brought the issue of native
sovereignty to the forefront. In the context of unsettled land claims, and the fact that their tracks sit on appropriated native territory,
CN Rail's actions are colonial and racist.

While CN uses the courts to attack native activists, their CEO -- E. Hunter Harrison is a member of the North American Competitiveness
Council, a key promoter of the recently formed "Security and Prosperity Partership" (SPP) between Canada, the United States and Mexico. The SPP continues the imposition of the neo-liberal North
American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), combined with paranoid "Homeland Security" policies.

The SPP is an attack on all working and oppressed peoples, especially the indigenous peoples of "North America". The SPP leaders ? George Bush, Stephen Harper and Felipe Calderon -- will be meeting later this summer, from August 20-21, in Montebello, Quebec (just 90 minutes from Montreal).

Join us on August 14 in Montreal, as we build towards the protests against Bush, Harper and Calderon in Montebello on August 20 (info:
