Thousands of Tibetans are rising up against Chinese oppression right now. Chinese authorities are cracking down heavily on protests in Lhasa that began on March the 10th. This appears to be the largest uprising in Tibet since 1989, and if unconfirmed reports are true, there may be more Tibetan casualties in the streets of Lhasa than at any time since 1959. The protest comes at a time of escalating human rights abuses in Tibet, despite China's promise of improvements in human rights ahead of the Olympics. While political leaders in the US, Canada and Australia are speaking out, New Zealand remains silent. What message does this send to China, the country about to host the Olympic games?
Tibetans in NZ, and all over the world, their friends and family, Buddhists, supporters of Tibet, human rights advocates and peace activists are calling for the Chinese government to stop the oppression now.

It seems to me that the Prime Minister cannot distance the Free Trade agreement from the Tibet issue. Helen Clark spoke of only supporting peaceful protest in Tibet, but of course ignores the fact the country was invaded and remains occupied at gun point.
If this were World War 2 and Tibet was occupied Europe would Clark decline to oppose the occupation and insist on a free trade agreement with Nazis ?
That's an accurate analogy. Were this 1939/40, Helen Clark would have opted for trade with the Nazis and declined to oppose the Holocaust or the Free French Resistance.
One only has to look at the treatment of a Chinese flight attendant by Air New Zealand for a clue what the free trade agreement threatens.
If our government (which largely owns Air New Zealand) sees nothing wrong in exploitation of wages. Does this mean if we get a free trade agreement NZ employers will be free to source employees from Chinese employment agencies at a fifth of the local pay scale ?
Could they under this free trade agreement permit wholesale replacement of Kiwis in NZ employment ?
I thought the ACT party was bad but this makes ACT look left wing!
I urge participants in this Free Tibet action to call for a boycott of Air NZ to protest both the action in Tibet and the free trade agreement because these issues are joined at the hip.

"I think all people here who are blameing china is because of the jealousy, they scare CHINA, and they don't like the fact which more and more chinese are richer than them"
I'm neither scared nor jealous of China. Why would I envy a country that doesn't have free speech, no workers rights etc.
Plenty of people are richer than myself - but i don't give a squat.
It would be wiser to expand on your points than just blow off steam.

we see no difference between the american warmonger terrorists and the Chinese gutterment terrorists, none. the Tibetians want Peace and Independence, the Chinese racists want control of something Not theirs.

British invasion? They never even had an ambasador to Tibet, let alone a military presence there.
Deng Jong Ming Tiu provides invective without substance, but manages to discredit the university (beijing) that supposedly gave him a Phd anyway.
Re: Free Tibet Protests across Aotearoa - 19th March 2008
What about this was Rasict?
It relects the media reports and Tibetan accounts we hear in NZ.
There was nothing racist about this article that I can see. Politically motivated sure, Communisim isn't the flavour of the day outside of China & many people sympathise or convert to Buddhism.
The other cultural issue we in NZ come across in academia is that Chinese students quote but don't refference correctly. Here we call that plagiarism and it is considered cheating and dishonest. We are told this is the academic norm in China.
Is that how you got your PhD?
