A woman was arrested on Thursday (17th April 08) afternoon in Auckland and charged under the Arms Act for alleged participation in 'paramilitary-style training camps' in the Bay of Plenty. She is facing several charges. The woman has been bailed and will appear in the Auckland District Court on 18th April. We are unsure whether she has been granted name suppression, so we will not reveal her name.
Another pre-deposition hearing will take place today (18th April) for everybody who has been charged. However, most arrestees have been excused. Activists in Wellington will be handing out leaflets at the Cenotaph from 5pm.
This brings the total number of people currently charged to 20 (16 arrested on 15th October 07, 3 arrests on 19th February 08 and one arrest yesterday). One further Tuhoe freedomfighter was arrested on 15th October. However, his charges have already been dealt with by the courts.

So much for free speech, so long as its what you want to hear and fits in with the group think.
Re: Further 'Operation 8' arrest in Auckland
Cops may have overreacted but maybe these guys should have thought about what they were doing and how they were doing it and there would never have been this mess in the first place.

Its like the one offhand comment about someone should kill Bush - That doesn't constitute an actual assassination plan - otherwise people all over the world would be in on that plot with each comment of 'bush should die' etc.
like Paul Buchanan said: if it was an actual plot the SAS would of been used.
Re: Further 'Operation 8' arrest in Auckland
There were no illegal weapons. Noone has been charged with being in possession of an illegal weapon.
Re: Further 'Operation 8' arrest in Auckland
Some of them did have licences and were still arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a rifle they bought with their licence.
Re: Further 'Operation 8' arrest in Auckland
What question did you ask that was too hard to answer?
"So much for free speech, so long as its what you want to hear and fits in with the group think"
Interesting you say freedom of speech yet you or someone in similar thinking to you, then go on to allude that those that apparently had a few dim conversations should be arrested for what they said.
BTW I get pissed off with that freedom of speech rhetoric, for starters try walking into any building, shop, institution in this country and have a big old rave about the state of the nation. Youd last about 10 minutes before the bill arrived and escorted you out. Thats not freedom of speech in action, thats just being an arsehole.
Freedom of speech exists when a government or hierachy allows people to speak their mind [without fear of arrest]....that doesnt mean you can go anywhere you like and rant on without someone showing you the door for being a pain in the arse. Dont get those two mixed up, theyre not the same thing.
There has never been any official statement allowing freedom of speech here in nz anyways.
Nowhere in the Bill of Rights are you guaranteed freedom of speech. The sedition laws existed to the end of last year which made it a jailable offence to speak in certain anti government points of view.
The Terrorism Suppression Act is the current legislation which allows the police to arrest you based on your political opinions.
What the Bill of Rights does say is: You have the right not to be subjected to arbitrary arrest or detention.
That means all those in Ruatoki that were detained on Oct 15 were done so against the Bill of Rights...If the police used their powers to do so based on the terror suppression act then the TSA contradicts the BofR and needs to be repealed.
Bill of Rights also says you have the right to: Be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Tuhoe arrestees are presumed guilty because of the media leaks and also because of the reverse onus function in law which by the time these people go to trial they would have already been proven guilty by association (reverse onus), therefore by the time the trial comes it will be the guilty trying to prove themselves innocent.
Again, going against the Bill of Rights. Now thats something to have a good old rant about, not whether or not someone editted your post. Those issues are real, disturbing, and its happening right in front of us.

Tuhoe sovereignty is notta fantasy arsehol. If one guilty then all is guilty because that us all. Tame Iti and his ropu stand for TUHOE sovereignty and so does the rest of us...matou katoa!
Re: Further 'Operation 8' arrest in Auckland
Re: Further 'Operation 8' arrest in Auckland
See you had me there until you said that bit now I think you are just spreading a bit of subtefuge. Let me explain why. For starters I need to give you a name, it helps...So Ill refer to you as Trevor.
Trevor there is one thing that the Crimes lab boys never do is kiss and tell. The reasons why are obvious. Not only would it be their jobs on the line but the case would be really fucked as well if it was said that members of the Crimes unit were showing sensitive intelligence to their non-cop mates over a bit of BBQ and boylove. Even if say Fritzy boy from the Crimelab unit were your lover he would not be able to share any such info over pillow talk with you after a hot and sweaty one or else risk his job and also the case.
So if what you are saying is true then that would be grounds for a serious investigation....or...you know the other option....aye?
'the fact that the bust was sprung by an off duty cop on a hunting mish'
See again, another bullet shot by yourself into your own foot. Had you had direct contact with staff at the crimes lab, you would know that the report put in by those two off duty police were in fact of a taiaha grading wananga somewhere deeper into the Urewera forest and unrelated to the later operation. It was those same two supposed off duty policemen that were seen in the video on youtube harassing the land owners picketting on their own land at the blockade in Waimana.
See: www.youtube.com/watch
'and the sentiment of what was been said is alarming n laughable'
Yes I read some of the comments in the Dom Post too, they were laughable, but maybe that was the intention when they were said, since the transcripts in the police affidavit didnt even try to give context, and are now inadmissable in court, we will never know.
'all i can say is Tame Iti surrounded himself with a bunch of fantasists who have now brought it all on top for a bunch of otherwise innocents..'
As was already said earlier Trevor and I agree totally, and I believe from my time in the land of the Tuhoe, that their sovereignty is their number one political priority and Tame has widespread support there for his views and actions in terms of those desires of that people. I think you are mistaken if you wish to separate them out as being two separate groups.

Re: Further 'Operation 8' arrest in Auckland
Its a complex issue that has been dumbed down by the MSM and delivered as babyfood to the masses to easily swallow.
You tried to come across as someone who is in the know but the stuff you are saying is NO different to the bi-lines used in the police media campaign, and in [every] mainstream media report on the issue.
The only media bothering to look into the deeper issues on this matter are Indymedia, Maori Television and Al Jazeera.
If you were THAT in the know you would also know that all of these people arrested on October 15 2007 have complete support within the Tuhoe Nation and that nation has publicly stated it so several times.
So why you bother to single out anarchists as some sort of separate entity indicates that you have a separate beef with them or intentionally intend to belittle their involvement in supporting Tuhoe.

Re: Further 'Operation 8' arrest in Auckland
Its a good article and no surprise that the foreign media could produce one of the most balanced mainstream media reports covering most of the basic issues surrounding Tuhoe.
There are some excellent articles and commentaries on Indymedia too that at times dig deeper than what is raised in that press piece.
"Oh for anyone who wants to do a check"
Hey thats great stuff, it is always the best policy to reveal who you are before accusing others of hiding behind anonyminity.
