Tūhoe freedom fighter in Porirua District Court

A Tūhoe activist appeared in the Porirua District Court on charges relating the Tūhoe Hikoi to Wellington in November last year. He faces 3 charges of dangerous driving and one charge for failing to stop after seeing a red and blue light (ie. a police car). The maximum penalty carries several years in prison. This was his first court appearance today and he was accompanied by a large group of supporters. After a karakia by one of his supporters, he was remanded until 30th May and his only bail condition includes a residential bail address.

Two plain clothes police officers were mingling around and sitting in the court room. One of them assisted the arrests on 15th October 2007 in Wellington. The surveillance of course continues.

Tame Iti’s lawyer Annette Sykes announced that they have successfully secured Tame’s passport so that he can travel overseas. Tame is due to appear in a production of TEMPEST II in Italy and may travel to other European cities and Japan to do further performances. This is a major victory for the case as Tame can now continue his work in educating people worldwide about the struggle of Tuhoe. [ More ]

So, um, is dangerous driving cool now?

Re: Tūhoe freedom fighter in Porirua District Court

Thank you Mr Judge & Jury.

Re: Tūhoe freedom fighter in Porirua District Court

"So, um, is dangerous driving cool now?"

Apparently only dangerous driving by the police or by Helen Clark's motorcade.

Re: Tūhoe freedom fighter in Porirua District Court

Kia Kaha Brother

What bullshit charges, this amounts to criminalising solidarity.

pakeha just-arse all right.

Re: Tūhoe freedom fighter in Porirua District Court

Kia Kaha,

any photos of the cop???

Re: Tūhoe freedom fighter in Porirua District Court

So, um, is dangerous driving cool now? - if Helen Clark is in the car it is

Re: Tūhoe freedom fighter in Porirua District Court

Kia kaha, e whaanau o Tuuhoe maa.

These charges allege dangerous driving, not yet proven, so use some intelligence, those of you who question whether support for these activists is reasonable.

This is Police harrassment of a protest, the Tuuhoe Hikoi, which had major potential to embarrass the Police at their National HQ (as it subsequently did...).

Arohanui kia a koutou katoa, e hoa maa, na keri

Re: Tūhoe freedom fighter in Porirua District Court

from what i heard the driver was actually thikning of saftey of others in that they were ensuring passage on the road was clear. Sort of like corking on a critical mass!

Blatent police bullshit once again.

Re: Tūhoe freedom fighter in Porirua District Court

how bout Helen Clark goes to court for the driving charges linked to her...

Re: Tūhoe freedom fighter in Porirua District Court

He was very lucky not to kill anyone. But now it appears that not only are guns and plotting violence cool amongst the peaceful left, but so is driving a car like a maniac and not stopping for cops.

Its kinda sad how very predictably hypocritical this is all becoming.

It would be funny though, Tame Iti going to countries where people are actually oppressed and have been oppressed in their history and trying to make them support him. He can tell them his hard luck story about how despite running armed training camps plotting insurrection hes still running around free and prior to it was actually even in the employ of the government (of course Tame refused payment or any benefits though on the basis of moral principles though right????)

Wow the editors have deleted any posts not supporting them.

You make China look moderate

Re: Tūhoe freedom fighter in Porirua District Court

"You make China look moderate"

You make stupid look intelligent.

Mau tonu ra a Tuhoe ki to kawau maro, kaore e mau te rongo,

na te iwi i to taha ara ko Maniapoto

Re: Tūhoe freedom fighter in Porirua District Court

"The surveillance of course continues."

This is the reality of the new Nu Zealand. The Govt has 'modernised' and shifted the paradigm to a surveillance society while NZ sleeps.

Re: Tūhoe freedom fighter in Porirua District Court

Word is out that Broad is not happy with the way OP8 is going and pressure has been put on the case detectives to step up survellience and to find some meat for their veggy sandwhich before the deps in Sept.
