This is a cool and very neccesary symbolic action to protest our governments involvement in evil. Information is power. NZ feeds the US unfiltered information as our part in the war on terror. The US use this information as part of a network that among other things is used to apprehend terror suspects. These terror suspects are then tortured. Torture is not ok. These spy bases make us as a country complicit in these abuses of power. If we don't let our government know that we don't approve of our part in these abuses then we are by default participating in them. After all our government officials are just our elected represetatives whose sole job is to serve our interests. This action is great in that it questions where we stand as a nation. How much do we support torture and US war making? The plowshares group is highlighting an area where NZ taxpayers money is being used to perpetrate injustices of questionable legality. They are heroes. We need more people who are willing to back up their convictions with action.
