Basically Georgia decided to try and knock a few rebel states on the head and bombed to pulp one of the major cities called Tskhinvali in South Ossetia resulting in the deaths of thousands and bowling almost every building in the city.

Russian who just happened to be preparing to bash Georgia, took advantage of the situation and counter assaulted the Georgian army, knocking them out of the rebel areas.

The US got their noses put out of joint by the Russians because Georgia is the only country in the world that seems to like Bush...and Georgia is also a member of the 'coalition of war criminals' that invaded Iraq with Bush.

So the British BBC and almost every US based media outlet are promoting the idea that Russia ticked off the confrontation and Georgia reacted to it, with few other news outlets confronting this lie, most USA'ians are left with no other version other than the lie.
