It was awesome to see so many young people at the demo! i'd say there were around 30 high school students who took the day off to come the demo. some came in their uniform and they all stayed to the end

Our tactics didn't work this time but we tried some new things. Sitting down in the middle of the road and outside the NZDF HQ and the embassies is a first for Peace Action Wellington.

Compared with the anniversary demos of 2004/5/6, there were so many fucking cops at the demo yesterday. At the UK high commission, our last stop, we counted over 40 cops! Last year, they had 10 cops at the US embassy and then left us with 3 (and then people got arrested after scuffles); in 2005 they sent the harbor cops because the SRG was at the rugby game and we managed to de-arrest someone - this year things were different.

It seems like the police sees events organised by Peace Action as a threat. The last 3 demos organised by this group (Te Papa 2006, Howard demo and yesterday's march) saw massive police presence.
