GENDER: International Womens Day

Monday the 8th of March is International Women's Day; a day celebrating women and our achievements but also highlighting the problems and inequalities that still remain in our societies. In New Zealand sexual and domestic violence continues to be a major issue and women's average pay is still less than men. Internationally many women are forced into prostitution, make up 90% of sweatshop workers,are denied education and adequate contraception and healthcare.

Both protests and educational forums are planned on March the 8th:

Auckland Rally 5:30pm, meeting at Aotea Square.

Wellington Forum 4:00pm, Student Union Building, Victoria University. Topics include Nurses and Widwives Fair Pay Campaign, Women in Burma, Immigrant Women and work.

Heretaunga Open day Heretaunga Women's Centre

Invercargill Forum 11am- 2pm , Wachner Place. Guest speaker is Dr Karen Love, Head of Women's Studies at Southland Institute of Technology.

Christchurch Forum 7.30pm at the Workers Educational Association (WEA) Hall, 59 Gloucester St. Topics include the position of Maori women in NZ society today, the Housewives Boycott Movement, and the position of working class women in Aotearoa.

Reclaim the Night vigil and march Meet 10pm at WEA
