I think one other important point to note that hasn't been mentioned here is the black market sales of Taser's in the future. We've seen it with the guns, now we can probably guarantee it will happen with the Taser's if it hasn't happened overseas as yet. So guarantee that in a few weeks or months from now someone will think that this would be an ideal xmas present. My experience of the police is that they do whatever they need to do in order to maximise the amount of convictions they get - this is what 'doing their job' actually means. People of New Zealand need to realise that we dont live in a perfect society. Violent crimes are on the increase and are the highest they have ever been. If I ever had to make the distinction between choosing a 9mm Glock or a 50,000 volt taser I know what I would chose in a instant! The Taser! As painful as it would be and I might hurt myself from hitting my head I can tell you from experience that the damage done would be no where near as bad as a 9mm bullet slamming into my body at approximately 1500 metres per second. Bear in mind as well that when a Policeperson draws their service pistol and takes aim, under the circumstances they are trained to aim for the critical mass i.e. anywhere from the waist to the shoulders. Due to the low muzzle velocity of the weapon the slug actually fragmentates on bone etc and causes major internal bleeding and destroys organs. This is why Tasers have been introduced into NZ.
