Day 14: "Locked out but won't shut up"

The strike that turned into a lock out across the country of 500 supermarket distribution workers in Auckland, Palmerston North and Christchurch is now two weeks old as Australasia's biggest retailer attempts to smash the NDU, the EPMU and their claims for a national collective agreement. Woolworths chief executive Roger Corbett gets $2.5 million a year and still the company refuses to give its workers pay parity across the country. Class warfare has broken out across Aotearoa and people need to start taking sides. Join picketlines, sabotage Progressives supermarkets, jam their advertisments and hassle their customers and automatically donate $20 by ringing 0900 LOCK OUT.

In Auckland a march and music will take place on Saturday the 9th of September beginning in Mangere Town Center at 12noon. Confirmed acts are reggae legend Tingi Ness (Unity Pacific), local reggae band "Three Doors Down" and Maori R'n'B group "Kotuku." [Details]

In Christchurch a rally and march on Friday the 8th of September will begin at the Trade Union Centre carpark, on the corner of Armagh and Madras Streets at 11:30am. The rally will be joined by Progressive Meat workers who will be on the first day of their 4 day strike. [Details]

In Palmerston North, a rally will be held at 12noon in the town square

In Napier a rally will be held at 12noon outside Napier Woolworths on Carlyle St

Recent actions have included an informational picket in Dunedin, flying pickets in Wellington, a blockade in Lower Hutt that resulted in three arrests and flying pickets across Auckland every day as unionists and activists attempt to contain the work of scabs operating out of mini-distrbution centres in some supermarket carparks.

On the same day the NDU began Supermarket pay talks there were 8 arrests in Auckland as unionists attempted to stop trucks crossing a picketline. Picketlines in Auckland are holding day and night with solidarity being shown from the community. [ Report ] In Lower Hutt activists and unionists picketed a Woolworths. [ Report ]
