SACKED for being pregnant
When new management took over Gateway Hotel in South Auckland Nora Ulutui was told her pregnancy was a “liability” and that she no longer had a job.
Not only is this blatant discrimination, the terms of the sale of the business included an agreement that existing staff would continue their employment with the new owners.
Unite Union is protesting against this discrimination and will be taking a case to the Human Rights Commission
Join us in a protest outside the Gateway Hotel, Sunday 12 November at 1pm.

Alleged sacking of pregnant waitress ignites protests
11 November 2006
The alleged sacking of a pregnant waitress has sparked a protest against a south Auckland hotel.
The Unite Union, representing low-income earners, is staging a demonstration outside Mangere's Gateway Hotel tomorrow over what they say was the wrongful sacking of Nora Ulutui.
Protest organiser Daphna Whitmore said that Ms Ulutui, who was six and half months pregnant, was not offered a new contract when ownership of the hotel changed hands recently.
This was despite the previous owners telling staff they had reached an agreement with the new owners that no-one would lose their jobs,
Ms Whitmore said when Ms Ulutui queried why she had no more shifts on the staff roster, she was told the hotel did not want "that sort of liability".
"It seems that pregnancy was the only reason she was sacked," she said.
Gateway Hotel manager Sachin Ghadiyar refused to discuss the issue referring NZPA to his lawyer Tony Kurta.
Mr Kurta said the union had got its facts wrong adding "it's pity they are not talking to me".
Ms Whitmore said in addition to the protest, Unite was also taking Ms Ulutui's case to the Human Rights Commission.
