Tongan police arrests over 700 people
Over 700 people have been arrested in Tonga since 16th Novmber. Currently 107 people are detained in police custody for questioning and according to the Police Commander more arrests to come as investigations into the crimes committed were ongoing. A lot of people were relseased without charge.
The first appearance of the people charged will begin on December 20 at the Nuku'alofa Magistrate's Court.
The Emergency Powers giving the Tonga Defence Services (TDS) and the Tonga Police a lot more power have been extended for another month, until January 16, 2007.
