JUST ONE MORE THURSDAY IN BLACK

JUST ONE MORE THURSDAY IN BLACK

Well the jury retired with a word from the judge
Not to go and do anything rash
And the lawyers withdrew, replenished anew
With undisclosed payments of cash
It was on a Wednesday that the jury retired
And on Thursday came dutifly back
There was nothing so special they had to report
It was just one more Thursday in black

There was no expense spared to make sure it was fair
There was even a guest star Allblack
But at closing the law showed who it works for
It was just one more Thursday in black

Well if you’re a pig and sufficiently big
And there’s several of you in a pack
You can do pretty much what you like to a woman
And know that she can’t hit you back
Right now, somewhere unknown ,there’s a woman alone
In pain and in fear on the rack
while grinning police ready bottle and grease
its just one more Thursday in black

There was no expense spared to make sure it was fair
There was even a guest star Allblack
But at closing the law showed who it works for
It was just one more Thursday in black

thank you Don this is a great poem - today is a sad day for Aotearoa

Re: JUST ONE MORE THURSDAY IN BLACK

Nice Poetry Don. It seems to be the way of the Police to violently assault and/or kill those whom they regard as less powerful (women, gays, blacks, muslims etc). Over here in Australia, our side recently had a victory in that Senior Constable Chris Hurley was recently charged with manslaughter (why it wasn't murder I don't know) for the brutal killing of an Aboriginal man on Palm Island in 2004 which sparked the riot there.

I think what this shows is that our side can WIN when we stand up and FIGHT. This cop is only the second police officer to be charged with the killing of an Aboriginal person in the history of Australia, and the charges only came after the riot on Palm Island and a series of demonstrations in major cities around the country; most recently on Invasion Day (Australia Day Jan 26).

These "special bodies of armed men" (to quote Lenin) play an important role in maintaining capitalist hegemony over our lives, a hegemony that can only exist when our side fails to organise and fight back. In the name of Stephen Wallace, Louise Nicholas and countless others, we must take this verdict as a lesson in state violence and prepare for the next struggle.
