Why ANZAC Day?
For some time now, ANZAC Day has ceased to be simply about the Gallipoli Landing and the systematic murder and destruction, by both sides, that was World War I. As the New Zealand State has since added numerous wars to its belt – World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, Afghanistan… – ANZAC Day has been transformed into a celebration of the proud history and the noble work of the New Zealand military.
For too long, this celebration has gone virtually unopposed. In no other sphere of life is a group that has as its primary aim the death and destruction of others celebrated with such sacred observance – except apparently that which is sanctioned by the New Zealand State.
War is Peace
War is no longer a popular term; it does not make for good public relations. This has required a certain re-branding on the part of militaries around the world.
In an Orwellian twist, Departments of War have been renamed Departments of Defence, and wars today are re-branded as humanitarian missions, installing ‘democracy,’ peacekeeping efforts and reconstruction. The fact that these humanitarian missions require the use of some of the most sophisticated killing equipment appears to be a minor point.
NZ Troops Out Now!
Lest we forget that the New Zealand military is currently deployed across 18 separate missions around the world, of which the war in Afghanistan, and the occupations of the Solomon Islands and Timor Leste are the most despicable.
Lest we forget that, despite attempts to brand the military otherwise, it is still a professional and well-equipped institution that engages in systematic and legitimised murder, armed patrols, nightly curfews, military checkpoints and all the other associated tactics of modern militaries.
Lest we forget that the military does not fight in a neutral or disinterested manner, but like all armies it serves the interests of the New Zealand State, whether these interests be the advancement of various economic agendas or forging closer relationships with other nations such as the United States and Australia.
Lest we forget: Afghanistan, Solomon Islands, Timor Leste

Resistance kill 19 in Afghanistan
The resistance have come as the Taliban step up their campaign against the US/Afghan puppet government.
A bomb has struck an Afghan Army vehicle in Paktika province, which is on the border with Pakistan.
This is work of the Taliban resistance to the US/Afghanistan army.
Hours earlier, a suicide attacker blew himself up close to the vehicle of a district governor of Paktika as the official was travelling to work.
The Interior Ministry says no-one was hurt in the attack.
In neighbouring Ghazni province, officials say a road construction company site was stormed near the main highway between Kabul and Kandahar on Tuesday, sparking a fierce battle that lasted more than six hours.
The Interior Ministry says three of the company's guards and seven Taliban were killed in the fighting. It says five militants were arrested.
Provincial police chief Alishah Ahmadzai says three civilians are also missing.
A spokesman for the Taliban, Yousuf Ahmadi, has allegedly confirmed the movement was behind the attack near Qarabagh, about 180 kilometres south-west of Kabul, but says only three militants were killed, including a commander.
He says the attackers got away with vehicles and weapons.
In another attack, police say resistance ambushed a police vehicle in the western province of Herat overnight and killed three policemen.
The west and north of Afghanistan were last year relatively free of Taliban-linked resistance but the unrest has surged this year.

US/Iraq puppet govt accused of covering up civilian deaths
The latest report from the UN Assistance Mission also expressed concern about the treatment of thousands of people detained under the security crackdown.
The Mission noted a rise in reported casualties in March, despite the US/Iraqi puppet government assertions that the Baghdad security crackdown is working.
A spokeswoman for the Mission says the government has withheld crucial civilian casualty statistics.
She says detainees are also being held for "prolonged periods without charge in overcrowded conditions".
She says security forces also fail to register people when they are detained, and some go missing.
US/Iraq's puppet prime minister Nouri al-Maliki has played down the claims, saying the UN Mission has obtained its information from unreliable sources.
