Re: Wellington Aboriginal Solidarity Photos

As we cruised over the hills of Chiapas today, the Midnight Oil song ´beds are burning`came on the radio. It made me so sad that so many years after that song was written, the situation in Australia is worse, not better for aboriginal people. I can only say thank you to all the people in Wellington, Auckland and Aussie who bothered to stand up and speak truth to the racists in Canberra.

The Dead Heart (Midnight Oil)

We don't serve your country
Don't serve your king
Know your custom don't speak your tongue
White man came took everyone

We don't serve your country
Don't serve your king
White man listen to the songs we sing
White man came took everything

We carry in our hearts the true country
And that cannot be stolen
We follow in the steps of our ancestry
And that cannot be broken

We don't serve your country
Don't serve your king
Know your custom don't speak your tongue
White man came took everyone

We don't need protection
Don't need your land
Keep your promise on where we stand
We will listen we'll understand

We carry in our hearts the true country
And that cannot be stolen
We follow in the steps of our ancestry
And that cannot be broken

We carry in our hearts the true country
And that cannot be stolen
We follow in the steps of our ancestry
And that cannot be broken

Mining companies, pastoral companies
Uranium companies
Collected companies
Got more right than people
Got more say than people
Forty thousand years
Can make a difference to the state of things
The dead heart lives here

Midnight Oil

Well it is kinda ironic quoting Midnight Oil lyrics on a forum like this nowadays. Peter Garret is now an ALP frontbencher right in behind Kevin Rudd and his full support for Howard's racist attacks. According to Rudd, it is now "Political Correctness Gone Mad" for children to sing sorry songs about the stolen generations in NSW schools. Shame on Howard and Shame on Rudd.
