On the fifteenth of October Police raided a house at 128 Abel Smith St, Wellington. The house is a place dedicated to the involvement in peace and community activities.
It is understood that they were arrested for involvement with fire arms at some point in the past. The Police smashed in their front window in vandal and enforced arrest upon several peaceful occupants in the house.
Items found in the house included pieces of fruit and a pair of cargo pants. Everybody say bang bang bananas!
On Thursday the seventeenth of October court proceedings began at the Wellington court house on ballance street.
The photos above show people from the the peaceful protest held outside the court house on the seventeenth of October 2007.
It is a sad day in New Zealand history when the police begin to arrest its citizens for unproven claims.

I expect that this will prove to be based on very flimsy evidence, but that will come to light after the court case, and therefore after the current terrorist legislation the government wants to push through. Maybe also after the election.
Re: Re: Fruity Fire Arms Court Case
OK. Those 6 words may be true, but the rest of that message bothers me - or the last paragraph of it at least in particular. The person who wrote it is telling others to shoot police officers and the like. Perhaps there is some 'tongue in cheek' element to it but it may well not come across as such and in fact may give the wrong impression if in fact that were the case, that it is flippant or whatever. I'm worried about that comment in the light of what is going on at the moment. It's not sensible nor is it even vaguely rational as to what most people would think ought to be up there on a newswire. IndyMedia isn't endorsing its sentiment at all, but I worry that in the current climate, that such comments could cause a misinterpretation on that, by the decision to allow it to remain, or the belief that it is being allowed to remain as something sensible. People have responded to it and with reasonable reply, but I feel that it should be removed at this time due to the fact that it panders to the very thinking that alarmists may be promoting the reason for their responses. It isn't sensible nor is it responsible or reasonable. It leaves a bad impression.
I'm hoping for calm and for reasoned discussion that leads to a realisation that this little sleepy hollow of Aoteroa is composed of people who are sincere and sensible in the main, and to a realisation that any over the top interpretation from this quarter and that, can make life difficult where it enflames some prejudice or misconception. Hopefully things will go back to normal in this country soon if that is possible, with regards to an assumption of discussion needing calm. I hope that once the air has cleared, that people can all go back to a dialogue approach when discussing big issues, rather than an approach that assumes too much, and in ways that enflame that prejudice, and also fear.
Excess ought to be tempered with calm discussions that allay needless alarm from those who clamp down at times on what it is that may not be fully understood in one situation or another, and bring things back to issues that ought to be discussed calmly and seen to without call to excess or over the top assertion. Those with the power to act ought to be more considered in the implications of their actions and to understand that in New Zealand there isn't really a culture of non peaceful activism in evidence to the degree that they might fear and not across the board, at all. The message that tells people to be stupid must surely be flippant. It isn't helpful and it isn't needed. It doesn't represent how most people feel about life and it shouldn't taint others by association to it. There shouldn't be a place on IndyMedia for assertions that advocate violence, or imply that they are, no matter how non serious those assertions are. It isn't helpful or considered or sensible. Can that message be removed please as a position of policy?
