March for Freedom in Wellington this weekend

25 October 2007

Press Release – for immediate release

From: Organisers of march in support for those arrested in the ‘terror’ raids

Supporters of those arrested in the so-called ‘terror’ raids on October 15 will march in Wellington on Saturday 27 October as part of an international day of solidarity for the prisoners.

The marchers are asking for the release of all prisoners; the charges to be dropped; and for the repeal of the Terrorism Suppression Act and its upcoming amendment.

“We find it appalling that in our supposedly ‘free’ country, the Terrorism Suppression Act allows people to be imprisoned for their political beliefs” said Felicity Perry, one of the organisers of the March.

The marchers will meet at Midland Park on Lambton Quay at 12noon and will march to Civic Square to listen to speakers, local musicians, and hear messages from those arrested.

“The arrests are another act in the long history of colonisation in Aotearoa, once again those who advocate tino rangatiratanga are being locked up,” Perry said.

“There is widespread support throughout New Zealand and the world for those arrested,” said Perry. Protests are occurring in Auckland, Christchurch, Hamilton, Whanganui, Melbourne, London, Berlin, San Francisco, Ottawa, and Mexico.

For more information, contact Felicity Perry, 021 042 5962.

Re: March for Freedom in Wellington this weekend

Could someone please post details of the Berlin, Ottawa and Mexico solidarity demos on here so we can add them to the list in the feature?

Thanks,
Asher (AIMC Editorial Collective)

"The marchers are asking for the release of all prisoners; the charges to be dropped;"

So is this a pro-firearms march aimed at overturning the draconian laws we have outlawing AK 47's, homemade bombs and requiring people to be licensed?

Re: Re: March for Freedom in Wellington this weekend

Don't feed the trolls. The above paid flack (for Thompson and Clark?) is ignoring the fact that if this was a firearms charge, these people would ALL BE OUT ON BAIL by now.

Re: March for Freedom in Wellington this weekend

No it's about securing our friends freedom from remand, dropping the bogus charges, and repealing the terrorism act - particularly the aspect that lets the NZ police go on a panty-sniffing fishing trip for almost two years and then intimidate people up and down the country and steal their stuff.

Re: March for Freedom in Wellington this weekend

So all of the 17 never used the guns the Police seized and never went to any of those camps?

Re: March for Freedom in Wellington this weekend

See above.

Re: Re: March for Freedom in Wellington this weekend

police intelligence = dictionary definition of oxymoron.

With very heavy emphasis on the "moron".

You'd think after Rickards, they'd have learnt not to lie, bullshit, use force and violence to back up their lies, and above all, get caught lying by the media.

We don't need to fuck the Police, they're fucking themselves up well enough all by themselves.
