Alleged Terror Suspect Previously Published Book on 'War on Terror'

Media Release: Rebel Press
ALLEGED TERROR SUSPECT
PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED BOOK ON 'WAR ON TERROR'
2 November 2007
For immediate use
Valerie Morse, a well-known Wellington anarchist activist and one of the 17 arrested in the police 'anti-terror' raids, previously published a book on the effects of the 'war on terror' just six months prior.

'Against Freedom: The war on terrorism in everyday New Zealand life' was published in June and is a prophetic survey of the raft of anti-terror legislation passed in New Zealand since 2001 and of the dangers posed for activists - especially those involved in anti-war, environmental and Tino Rangatiratanga movements - as well as migrants and refugees. It also covers the rise of State surveillance by the Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) and the media complicity in its reporting on the 'war on terror' in the Pacific and further abroad.

A prophetic passage from the book reads as such:
"It is clear that political dissent is now more perilous and more treacherous than before September 11th. Given the new counter-terrorism laws, the possibility of being not only labelled a terrorist in the media, but prosecuted as one, is a reality. By casting political dissent as terrorism, the government, its agencies, the media, and other vested interests assault our freedom of expression" (82).

The book is freely available as PDF on the Rebel Press website (www.rebelpress.org.nz), as a hard copy directly from the publisher, or from a number of popular book stores including Unity Books and The Freedom Shop in Wellington.

Valerie Morse had name suppression lifted yesterday but remains detained by the State. Her publisher offers her their unconditional support and solidarity, and demand all charges against the 17 be dropped immediately.

I guess they don't treat american girls too nicely there. She is NOT a terrorist. We had no idea Valerie Morse was arrested and will be taking appropriate action stateside.

Re: Re: Alleged Terror Suspect Previously Published Book on 'War on Terror'

i don't think the new zealand state treats "american girls" any worse then they treat indigenous people. i'm really uncomfortable at the idea that you'd support valerie because of her american citizenship and not the other 15 arrestees. they are not terrorists either you know. they're people who fight for justice and self determination just as fiercly as valerie does.

Re: Alleged Terror Suspect Previously Published Book on 'War on Terror'

It's called shooting the messenger.
Presumably Helen Clark read the book and went ballistic. As minister in charge of the SIS ...
(You can join the dots.)

Re: Alleged Terror Suspect Previously Published Book on 'War on Terror'

rest assured the kiwi pigs treat Maori like trash, no arguement, however, posting this all over USA sites in pure dk language will put pressure on that filthy lesbo Clark & her lowlife lying pigs to release her, and ultimately her fellow Aotearoans. Valerie is probably as dusgusted with her usa citizenshit as dk is, like AIDS or Cancer it is hard to get rid of, and just as deadly.

it's not they way your filthy kiwi pigs treat american girls or Maori, It's the fear of the money God put into Tourism Parasites, they know Australia has reaped lots from being a freindly place to go and are sensitive about these sort of things, in this day and age of communication. australia was also smart enough to decrim marijuana.
