Do You Really Oppose the Privatisation and Tolling of Roads?????

Then pull your weight and join this collective stand!!

Picket - this Saturday - Transit NZ¹s final open day on the SH20 Waterview Connection Tunnel.
Protest against User Pays & Privatisation of State Highway 20 Waterview Connection and other transport infrastructure!

Saturday March 29th
Picket Transit NZ¹s final open day on the SH20 Waterview Connection Tunnel.

Waterview Methodist Church,
corner Great North Rd & Fir St
Auckland
12 noon - 2pm

Transit has chosen to consult only those living above the tunnel who won't have access to it. It's everyone else to the west and north, south and east, who also need to give Transit the message: No tolls, no privatisation of this or any road!

The government has appointed a Waterview Connection Procurement Steering Group trio of sharks - representatives of big business organisations shamelessly self-interested in road and transport privatisation - to investigate the "market appetite" for a public private partnership (PPP) for a Waterview tunnel. The state wants this to serve as the model to launch wholesale use of PPPs for infrastructure.

To see the gory details of what the government (Labour or National) is planning to foist onto the public, come to this open day or visit: www.treasury.govt.nz/publications/informationreleases/waterview/qanda

Submissions need to be sent to
Transit NZ: waterview.connection (at) transit.govt.nz and
Waterview Tunnel PPP Procurement Group: waterview (at) treasury.govt.nz

Re: Do You Really Oppose the Privatisation and Tolling of Roads?????

Do I really oppose privatisation of roads etc... interesting question. Not sure if I do. But I do know that it'd be great to see an end to corporate welfare of trucking companies. I mainly only use pavements, but my taxes go to resealing the roads that are broken up by trucks. Maybe privatisation would be a good thing.

Re: Do You Really Oppose the Privatisation and Tolling of Roads?????

That's a real quandary alright. Because we've been ripped off by the trucking industry ever since it got favoured by the state instead of public rail, which was eventually sold off as a result on the excuse of being unprofitable - we should ponder whether we want to be ripped off something shocking by privatisation of the roads too... When all said-trucking companies extra costs of tolls would be passed on in higher prices on everything? And written off by them in corporate welfare tax credits? Like GST is... Umm who pays? Who profits? Who gets to be barred from the street as criminal toll debtors? Ummm

Re: Do You Really Oppose the Privatisation and Tolling of Roads?????

It will mean we fund the roads, pay for them again and don't own them.
