Every year in New Zealand, over 300,000 animals are used in experiments and testing by universities, pesticide and chemical manufacturers and government research institutes. Species used include birds, cats, dogs, goats, guinea pigs, mice, horses, pigs, rabbits, rats and sheep.
These experiments involve mutilation, genetic modification, live dissection and deliberate infection with painful diseases. Animals are tortured with drugs, poisoned with toxic chemicals, tormented in psychological testing, and subjected to many other atrocities that so-called scientists have been able to develop.
Supporters of animal experiments claim vivisection is vital to medical progress. They often claim that major advances in medical science depend on animal experimentation and they say scientific progress would be delayed if we abolished vivisection.
Medical and scientific experts refute those claims and an increasing number of medical experts and scientists are speaking out against the unnecessary and unscientific animal research method and have more information on how animal experimentation has actually delayed and obstructed medical progress.
Throughout its history, vivisection has been inherently cruel, inevitably wasteful, and perpetually invalid and unscientific. It's time we put a stop to this barbaric industry.
We will be holding demonstrations through out the week and the animals need you to attend. Animal researchers need to see that there is no support for their cruel and murderous 'science'.
Timetable of Actions:
Saturday 19th April - Meet outside the Takapuna Mall (opposite the Burger King) at 7.30am; we will move to our demonstration from there. If you would like to come and do not have transport email us and we will see what we can sort out.
Monday 21st April - Phone in Happy Hours to GlaxoSmithKline between 2 - 4pm. They can be contacted on the following numbers 0800 808 500 or 0800 804 040.
**** Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) is Europe's largest contract animal testing laboratory. GSK (GlaxoSmithKline) are Huntingdon's single largest customer. They use HLS for experiments every single day and are responsible for the pain and suffering of thousands of animals every year. There is an international campaign to shut down HLS and there are demonstrations and actions world wide targeting GSK as part of this.
Thursday 24th April (World Lab Animal Day) - Meet at the entrance to the Winter Gardens in the Auckland Domain at 12 noon. Please do not be late to this one.
We have plaquards, leaflets and banners but please feel free to bring your as well.
