Ploughshares Update 1 May

Sam, Peter and Adi are being held in separate cells at Blenheim Police Station. They are in high spirits and are enjoying their fellowship with the Police staff supervising them. Mike Knowles, the Christchurch lawyer representing the three men has been in regular contact with them and will travel to Blenheim on Monday for the second bail hearing.
The action has attracted international attention and opinion within New Zealand seems clearly divided. There are many who think the action has raised critical questions about the role of a facility most Kiwis were not aware they were funding and those who think the action was a huge waste of money and the three men involved should be punished severely. Hundreds of messages of support and donations from members of the public endorsing the action have already been received.

There is wide interest in the Ploughshares message from both the Christian family and wider population - Ploughshares supporters have had many opportunities to talk with others interested in a faith of love in action

Re: Ploughshares Update 1 May

Maybe there should be a referendum on whether the spy base should be taxpayer funded or not...

And also who else funds it..

Re: Ploughshares Update 1 May

NZ is a partner to the alliance of the willing on the WAR on TERRORISM.

The Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB), which operates the Waihopai Spy Base, confirmed it alerted its alliance the United States, Australia, Britain and Canada, fearing a coordinated assault on the Ukusa intelligence alliance, after the attack by the ANZAC Ploughshares, The Dominion Post reported. The ANZAC Ploughsares is made up of a priest, a farmer, and an organic gardener.

GCSB director Air Marshal Bruce Ferguson said an assurance was given that no sensitive equipment had been compromised in the attack on the GCSB's listening station that feeds into a US-led global electronic eavesdropping network. Mr Ferguson said his agency had scrambled to alert its intelligence "friends and partners".

The admission from the Government's serving spymaster came in response to questions about whether New Zealand's friends and allies were concerned over Wednesday's security breach by the Ploughshares protest group.

What other help do they need?
