No to biofuel imports

The Alliance Party says that there should be no importation of biofuels.

Alliance Party transport spokesperson Bob van Ruyssevelt says he supports the call by the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, Dr Jan Wright, for the government to scrap the current Biofuels Bill.

"This legislation would mean importing of biofuels from countries where farmers are cutting down scarce rainforests, or converting land from food to fuel production, which is denying cheap food to the world's poor."

He says in the short term the small amounts of New Zealand-made biofuels should be used by big fleet users in the public transport sector.

Mr van Ruyssevelt says this would avoid the need for the unnecessary expenditure on infrastructure involved in requiring all service stations to offer such products.

He says the Alliance Party supports massive investment towards public
transport, including road, rail and shipping, to reduce environmental problems and to improve the access of all New Zealanders to affordable transport.

Re: No to biofuel imports

Say no to biofuels if they use animal waste from slaughter houses too!!!

Re: No to biofuel imports

Why? Is it better to pour animal waste into rivers than use it as fuel?

To see why biofuels from animals are bad go to www.quitmeat.org.nz for a peek.

Re: No to biofuel imports

It's greed that turned a viable project around, that could have created local employments and at least provide an alternative for petrol. It's a Business Roundtable that's churning all these quick money making schemes at the expense of the consumers and families...

The trouble is, National is just as bad under the Business Roundtable. So what choice do we have?

How absurd can this be? The majority of NZers are absolutely powerless against the few!

Ooops, it's the Alliance! It's the disappearing party...

Re: No to biofuel imports

The round-the-world biofuelled catamaran is a dinosaur already.

Re: No to biofuel imports

need movement building and community empowerment.

need to unite against those that already are. the buisness roundtable doesnt care which party is 'in power' because it supports them all, because they support it.

they want people to buy, spend, shop, work, and get tired and then watch tv.
