Climate Action in Australia
This coming July there will be two events well worth keeping an eye on taking place one right after the other in Newcastle, just North of Sydney. If you can make it over to them, or are already planning on being in Australia in July, you really should go!

Students of Sustainability Conference
The annual Students of Sustainability Conference will be held at the University of Newcastle from the 5th to the 9th of July, with camping close by. Students, community and Indigenous activists, academics, public intellectuals, environmental educators, social change agents of all stripes and from all over Australia will come and participate in a range of educational, practical and participatory forums and workshops. SOS is about imparting the inspiration, tools, motivation and education required for participants to inspire and educate others when they return to their own communities.
Climate Camp
The camp for climate action will be five days of inspiring workshops & direct action aimed at shutting down the world's largest coal port in Newcastle, just north of Sydney. Climate Camps have been very successful in Britian over the past few years. They have not only highlighted major climate change issues, but also taken meaningful and effective direct action against some of the worst perpetrators of climate change. This will be the first of hopefully many Climate Camps in the Oceania region. Like the Camps in Britian, the Newcastle Climate Camp will seek to set an example of what a sustainable society might be like, with a focus on low-impact living in addition to education and high-impact direct action.
Both of these events will be incredible and have the potential for huge impact. If you think you can justify the flights to Sydney you can attend both in quick succession.
